Question about 1985 Mazda RX-7

1 Answer

Car will not turn over

I have an 85' rx7 GS and one day I drove it for about 30 mins then shut it down and everything was working fine. Then about 5 hours later I went to start it, I turned the key and all the lights came on and it turned over for a couple of seconds then made a loud cranking sound then wouldnt turn over at all, i tried a new battery and push starting it but still nothing, so I'm guessing its the starter but not sure and I have never changed a starter before so I have no idea what i'm doing so any info would help, thanks.

Before I replace the starter I would touch/feel, making sure its tightly mounted and the electrical wiring is also tight. Then disconnect the battery (-) cable and remove the starter, not that hard. Take the starter to Autozone and get it tested for FREE. Then if you need a starter you can buy one there and put it back on in the reverse order as removed.

Its the Distributor. You have to replace it. A good mechanic will check if the spark is coming from the Distributor. The coil and another sensor is in the distributor. Sometimes u will find oil leaked from the engine into the distributor which stalls the Mazdas.

1989 chevy cavalier z24 strats but stalls rapidly

This problem is commonly caused by a dirty automatic idle speed control valve and throttle valve. Buy a can of throttle valve cleaner (do not use carburetor spray cleaner!) from NAPA or Carquest (made by CRC chemicals) and spray it into the air intake while the engine is running, use up about 1/2 the can, engine will try to stall hold the speed up, shut it down and let it soak for 30 minutes, restart and blow out the remaining fluid, shut it down and disconnect the negative battery cable for 5 Min's to reset the base idle control

2000 VW Beetle dies occasionally and won't start for a while

run a scan tool on it and make sure there are no codes, if there is codes address those problems first, if no codes.. next time it won't start check for fuel preasure. it is probably a fuel pump getting ready to go out or they may be a large amount of something other than gas clogging the pick-up sock at bottom of fuel pump.

93 prelude si transmission trouble

As the commenter said, check if the tranny fluid is full. A clear pink or red is best, a dirty brown or cloudy color is probably trouble. It's a '93- it is 24 years old, everything wears out eventually. I'm as old as the hills myself, and I can't run anymore. Start looking for a replacement transmission, or have a transmission shop diagnose it. Unless you are attached to the car, don't let them talk you into a new transmission-the cost may be more than the car is worth. You might want a used unit- try to get ANY kind of warranty-even 30 days is better than nothing. If it lasts beyond 30 days without a problem, it might go another 24 years---pshaw! not really.

Pull instrument/ cluster panel and re-melt cold solder joints where circuit board connects to dash connectors. Get them hot enough to turn them bright silver, usually 3-5 seconds each pin.
Good Luck!
