Question about 1999 Cadillac DeVille
I bought this 99 STS cadillac nice lookin car... had car for about two months no problem until my wife drove the car and it began to run hot, about 2 3/4 past the half way mark on gage...she immediately pulled car over waited about an hour until engine was cool...got home no problem....problem seems to be progresivly getting worse sence then. Car runs hot but no leaks that i can see....but coolent is pushing up thru fill hole...no smoke from tailpipe, no cloudy oil, no leaking from water pump, no leaking from radiator, car runs and drives fine. If anyone has a clue...holler back THANKS.
Its possible your thermostat is stuck in either the on or off position. Also its not an expensive part. I would start there first and go from there. Also how many miles are on the vehicle. Also I assume this is a north star engine.

Twoguns2007 - I am having EXACTLY the same problem!!! I would appreciate you emailing me when you find the solution: firstname.lastname@example.org. I started with thermostat - path and cost of least resistance; did not remedy. Several mechanics leaned toward water pump; two others said head gaskets (extremely spendy, as you have probably found). The thing is, MINE does not run above hot/normal, for HUNDREDS of miles, but DOES use coolant. I like the Solution #1 guy's suggestion here as something to try BEFORE head gaskets. My Caddy only has 85,000 miles...just hard to believe it is a head gasket problem (or, rather, don't WANT to believe it). Please let me know what you find out; I will GREATLY appreciate it. Thanks, and best of luck to you.

Check for coolant flow at the Purge line, this is a common problem on the Northstar.
There is a small diameter hose coming from near the top of the coolant tank, this is the purge line.
With the engine idling, pull the purge line from the tank,if there is no coolant flow from this small hose,it is blocked and this will cause overheating. Also check for blockage at the nipple on the tank if the purge line is flowing coolant.

Run a compression test on the engine, sounds like you have a blown head gasket that is getting worst, these cars are put together so well they take a lot longer to break down that the less expensive cars.
