1997 vw jetta security system

While sitting at a stop sign my jetta shut down completely and the alarm begam blaring. after about 5 mins. it stopped and began again as soon as I inserttd the key or opened the door. My driver's side door lock doesn't work (the whole thing just pulls out) and the pasenger side lock won't even turn. I towed it to a mechanic who said that if the bsecurity system came when new they would have to replace it but if it was installed later they could override it. Is this true? And do all 1997 jettas come with a security system? I know the original owner d
added some things and the security system may have been one of them. I don't want to get ripped off. I there anything I can do to correct it myself? Thank you for any help. .

1997 jetta didnt have key so hot wired, ran fine for few days and just wont start now , why?

The 97 Jetta has a built in security system and if you hot wire anything it interferes with it and will shut the car down and will not start again. Un hook the battery and wait 5 mins and then hook it back up. The alarm might go off so use the key to turn it off and then try to start the car. That should fix it and if not I cannot fix it without seeing it. Sorry and hope that it works for you. It has happened to me when I switched out my stereo with an aftermarket one.

Jetta alarm

There are a few possible problems which may cause this. A bad wiring in one of the components that are part of the alarm system. (door locks, hood, trunk, radio and ignition).
Try checking the main wiring harness to each door, they are protected by a rubber boot that is in the vehicle body along the door frame close to door hinges. Common for wires breaking and causing this. A defective radio may cause this problem also,. Another is the hood / trunk switches or wiring.

How can the alarm on a 1996 VW Jetta be permanently disabled? No matter locked or unlocked the alarm system is armed. Of course when it is on, the car won't start and the alarm/horn is blaring and annoying...

Alarm box is behind the abs light panel and headlight switch, Its kind of hard to get to but there will be a 6 pin and a 10 pin, the other box is for the headlights, unplug the 10 pin harness and pit a jumper wire from the red wire to the red/black wire. Alarm is bypassed

You need to reset the alarm by inserting the reset key(small plastic devise with visible contactors that should be with the keys) for a few seconds in the it's hole in the right-hand rear speaker. Open the boot look at the underside of the rear right-hand speaker to locate the hole.

Horn beeps as if in an alarm mode

My 4Runner did the same thing. What I did was just put a new battery in hook it up and let it honk. Put the key in the ignition and start it and it should stop. It is in alarm mode.
