Question about Toyota Avalon

3 Answers

My 1997 toyota avalon was recently "rear ended" on the highway. At the time of the accident water was noted under the car. the car began steaming soon after restarting. when I opened the hood i saw a large crack (1/4-1/2 inch wide 3 inches long) on the water outlet below where the radiator hose attaches. i had to have the car towed. the insurance company says it was unrelated to this accident and must have been damaged previously. I stated that it would be impossible to drive even very short distances with this crack and they insist that it must have been smaller previously and perhaps just opened wider. Can that make sense??

No it does not make sense. Talk to the repair facility . Since the tailpipe connects to the motor any jolt on the pipe will shake the motor. Do not settle with the insurance company. The body shops routinely find hidden damage and have your body alignment checked. Let your body shop fight this one out.

Im sure it was about to brake and with the impact it broke, it might have been very old, insurance companies are a rip off

I am not an attorney but if you didn't have to add water to your car before the accident and now it has a huge crack then The accident caused the problem. I would seriously look into retaining legal council over this matter or this will be left for you to deal with. It is possible that the crack was there and the wreck made it worse but you would have noticed it prior to the accident. Also if the crack was there before then it was at least drivable and your leak was small and manageable. Please do seek legal council though. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Where is the socket to plug the diagnostic code reader into in a 1997 Toyota Avalon (I have the check engine light on)

Should be under the dash on the right side of the steering column. Some times there is a cover and/or they are tucked up to be hidden but if I recall it should be fairly easy to see on that Toyota.

when in a rear accident everyting shifts forword and the momentum could have caused it you would have known if it was like that before the accident because it would have been steaming and overheating.

Unknown Engine Problems, 1997 Toyota Avalon

Hello, and thanks for choosing FixYa for assistance.

Before I would consider anything else, I would take your vehicle to a competant repair facility and get the automatic transmission fluid completely flushed. This may be all that your problem is.
