its not worth very much as r134 is being used to replace r12 even if the system has r12 in it its being evacuated and replaced with r134.

they put a sticker under hood somewhere to denote
R12 or R134.

the real question is what it has TODAY.????
joking , Matrix like, what would be there, if you hadnt asked? LOL

no joke from toy forums
Simon was very close. It was actually May 1993.The last frame number to have R12 is JT3DJ81xxxxx38946. '38947 is the first frame with R134.

so your's shipped with R134

Most everything built before 1994 used R12 freon. And you must have a license to buy R12 in most countries.
A shop can convert the system over to R134.

No cold air from the ac in my 1989 toyota camry

Are you sure that is the problem?? Other things can cause this. Have the pressures checked first to see if the charge has leaked out, then you must find the leak. Also you have R12 in this system, R12 is no longer produced so you must covert the system to the newer R134 refrigerant, this takes a special kit being installed. So I guess the answer here is not you can't do this at home. The whole job will run about $1000.00

What type of refrigerant does a 1990 Ford Ranger use?

there are only two types of refrigerant (or normally called as freon): R12 and R134. R12 is designed for car model 2000 and below. though, some old car compressors can accomodate R134 provided that you change your auxillary fan (fan for your aircon condenser) since R134 is hotter than R12. Ask an aircon technician if your compressor can be charged with R134.

Most of the countries now ban the use of R12 since it is more harmful to our ozone.

What type of freon the 85 Corvette uses

Cars of that decade use R12 I believe. I have a 1991 corvette that also used R12. I had it converted to R134 so I could do the recharge myself if necessary.

How do I recharge the AC freon on my own?

You should have R12 freon in a 1990 but you can put R134 freon into that system the only problem your going to have is the adapter for R12 is different from R134 after you get the adapter you need to put the freon in the low pressure valve not the high pressure, you will know which one because the adapter only fits the low pressure valve which is located on your AC lines under your hood, theres a little cap thats either blue or black you unscrew. You can't buy r12 anymore because its not good for enviorment so buy R134. you can buy at any parts store for like $5 to $10.
