This job can cost about $200/$400 depending who does the work.Yes you have to tahe apart the top of the engine, and the valve cover gaskets can be dobne at the same time.but these are two seperate jobs depending on which engine you have, sometimes they both have to be done when you do lifters.

I did this job on mine using aftermarket parts, and it leaked again inside 2 years. Sigh, once more, but with genuine Toyota gaskets etc this time, and it hasn't leaked since. So that's my tip, use genuine bits.

I would like to know how many lifters a toyota previa has?

On for each valve

You have to know how many cylinders
& valves per cylinder--Google it

You can't fix the noise anyway, without
taking the engine apart

The motor is probably worn out, if it is in there
since 1995

I am hearing a noise in the engine of my 1999 toyota vista ardeo, what could possibly be the cause? Does the d4 engines carries valve lifters?

Hi there, the noise you might be referring to which sounds similar to a typewriter may be the cam gear for the VVT found at the intake. If it is louder than when you got this it may need check up. Changes in the O rings or may need replacement if you also notice a decrease in power at certain revs. Not all sounds however may not be the case. High pitch sounds may be because of timing belts or metal to metal contact which may need lubrication. As for valve lifters, the one that you have does not have any.

1997 Toyota Camry Engine Short Block- took it to the toyota dealer to replace oil pan gasket and valve cover gaskets, and front engine seals. they took for a after repair test drive and the lower block...

they probably didn't put any oil in it after the gaskets were replaced and that caused the problem.if the car was running fine prior to you having it fixed and there was no noise coming from the engine, then that would be my best assumption to your problem.hope this info helps and good luck.take care , manny

depending on what engine, you may have adjustible lifters. aIf it doesn't you may have a lifter bleeding down. you may want to try a bottle of lucas additive your next oil chang.

Mechanic said valve lifters need to be replaced

valve lifters make a kind of rattly knocking noise! which sort of follow engine revs.if they are gone you may need a new camshaft as well, best to do itr all at the same time and are sold as a kit.are you sure there is a new noise or are you just listening harder?
