Question about 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier

1999 chev cavalier overheating EVEN after one blown motor!

Bought it brand new in 1999. no problems with car ever then in 2005 went straight to hot, before i could get it stopped, sort of coughed & died. mechanic said head was ruined so bought wife new car. kept this one & had new motor built & installed. ran fine for 4 days then showed hot. SO replaced sensor, fan comes on, etc; replaced hoses cuz one did look like it was 'collapsing" a bit. still would go to hot almost instantly. replaced computer module. ran fine a few days then would go from cold to hot in seconds, then on average of 10-15 seconds, cool back down (according to temp gage inside car) checked coolant often & seems coolant is escaping. red radiator light inside car that i've NEVER seen before came on. radiator was reworked when motor was installed. almost everything under hood is new. i now have over $3500 in NEW under hood in a $2000 car. then, this morning cranked up to see what latest might be & before could back out of driveway, check engine light blinked on & off. can ANYONE help? i am in a rural area and cannot afford the expense of taking to a dealership.

Did you cheak the A/C on my car the compresior is going out and if I turn it on it will heat up my car because it slowes down the belt witch dose not alow the water pump to work like it should. sound like the thermostat is lock up or an air pocket in their burb the system and check to see if the thermostat is lock shut you can do that by heating your oven to 230 remove any gaskets and stick it in the oven from their if it open you know that works. If not I would get thermostat that is name falsafe it will cost you about $2.00 more but when it locks up it locks open that will save your car.

What are symptoms of a blown head gasket for 2000 chevy cavalier?

Ouch! Rattling is tappets usually due to low oil. Could be a number of things. Blown head gasket is one, burnt out valve or worn cam. Your oil pump may not be working also check oil level. I think there is probably some serious damage the Chev motors are strong they will drive to self destruction. If there is knocking on the bottom then you are looking at a rebuild.

My 2005 cavalier is showing its overheating but it gots water and the motor aint hot what could be the problem

Check the reservoir. If coolant is backing up into the reservoir, then the thermostat is likely bad and not allowing coolant to flow.

1996 Chev Cavalier is over heating even after i changed the thermostat but the radiator isn't getting hot

Overheating can be a mystery-but I find that most of this problem is putting in the thermostat backwards, and/or not getting all the air out of hoses(upper and lower)-posible that water pump is shot, and or fan belt that drves pump is no good(unless driven by timing belt)-flush radiator to make sure that isn't clogged up...

Most older gm cars you can use dexron 2 transmission fluid or find in your local parts store a good brand of universal fluid.

Overheating

Sounds like there's a leak in your coolant system or the gagues are malfunctioning. My friend has a 2005 Spectra5 and he has been having problems with the check engine light. Apparently it's a software problem that he's waiting for the manufacturer to have a fix for it. My recommendation is to take it into the dealership right away, perhaps even have it towed in just in case it may cause damage to the engine to drive it as is. A suggestion when you have a brand new car, you should not take it on long freeway trips (i.e. do not let the engine set at a fixed engine speed including idle) for more than 10 minutes at a time until you have 500 miles on it to allow it to properly break in first.
