Is the check engine light on? If it is, then take the car to an autoparts store and have them use a scan tool to retrieve any fault code(s) that are stored in the car's computer. Most parts stores offer this service free of charge and it will help narrow down the cause of the problem. You need to find out what the problem is before you can fix it. Sure hope this helps you find a resolution to the problem. Best wishes.

Sounds like maybe a motor mount may have broken,if you
open the hood and put the car in drive ,then neutral then reverse
the engine should only "rock" about an inch or so,if it really jumps
that is the problem.

Loss of engine power

Check wiring around the throttle motor assy on the top of the engine. This harness sometimes rubs through on hot engine surfaces.

Jeep Liberty 2008--Noisy when releasing the gas pedal

I might take a closer look at the wheel bearings. Being an '08model, I'd think that something like that would be covered by a warranty. May also have to do with the tires. I've personally driven a few Libertys at work, and haven't noticed anything like that, nor have any customers presented that as a problem. I hope this helps.
