Check Engine Light- ASL and Crusie Control (Limiter) Not Availabl

I have a 2004 XK8 Convertible with36,000 miles on it. The car has been fairly reliable until NOW.....
I starting getting sporadic Check Engine Warning Light a few months ago. It would quickly disappear but reappeared with increasing frequency until it finally remained lit up on the message center. THe first message was "Limiter (crusie control) not available. THe next message was ASL (Automatic Speed Limiter) not available. Te car has begin to ride rough. It feel like it is missing gears and will make an onbnoxious honking noise at times. Has anyone else had this issue? Does anyone know what may be causing the issue?

I did take the car to both a Jag dealer and independent shop that services Jags. Both told me the exact same thing: NOTHING. They said that the fault codes were showing multiple occurrences where 7 out of 8 cylinders were misfiring. They looked at the sparkplugs and cylinders and said nothing looked suspect. They also performed software upgrades on Emissions and Transmissions module.

A wild guess - your crank speed sensor. But, with this level of malfunction, pull the codes. Buy a code reader (EOBD/OBD) from Ebay or go to a Jaguar dealer or any decent engine diagnostic center and they will tell you what is malfunctioning. The codes don't tell all the story, they just tell you what is out of tolerance - there could be a lot of things out just because one component is malfunctioning, so you need someone who has expertise with this engine.

I have just had an orange light come on saying ASL.What does this mean

This is the automatic speed limiter in newer Jaguars. It is a feature used by the driver to prevent exceeding a set speed. Once the feature is turned on using the ASL button, the actual speed at which the feature will limit you and prevent any further acceleration is set using the cruise control rockers.

The cruise control on my 2004 Bonneville Pontiac stopped working. I checked to fuse and it is still good. What could be the possible problem?

Check to see if the third brake light works. The brake switch works both the crusie and the 3rd brake light

MY 99 XK8 CONVERTIBLE WINDOWS GO DOWN 1/4 '' EVERYTIME YOU OPN THE DOOR BUT NOT WILL GO UP AUTOMATICALLY,AS DESIGNED TO DO.HOWEVER THEY WILL GO UP IF YOU RAISE THEM WITH THE SWITCH INSIDE THE CAR,BOTH...

It just needs resetting.Hold each window switch down until you hear a click at the top and then go down all the way and hold until it clicks at the bottom of its travel.A low battery will cause this sometimes or a  battery change.Tony/Hills Motors, San Mateo, CA

What is stability control? light came on

Hi

Sounds like usual gremlins kicked in to your computer, with the flat battery.

Disconnect both terminals of the battery, switch on the ignition to start position 6 times, to clear the computer memory.

Reconnect Positive terminal + then Negative --- and start engine, and check it out.

I am pretty sure it will not come back on.

Also I suggest you get the battery tested soon as possible.

( Is it the original battery ?) If so, its shot !

Good Luck !

Please give me a FixYa rating please !

Let me know how you get on .

Need source for new 1997 XK8 convertible front coil springs

Hi

Yes front coil springs are what you need !

I think the spares situation for Jaguars, is disgusting with the main dealers.

I have been trying to source them myself, for about 2 weeks, and only found ****, painted up second hand ones.
I will keep trying, and let you know if I am lucky and find a source for genuine new springs.

Best Wishes

John

2004 sport trac crusie control issues

It sounds like the cruise module is detecting something wrong. I would check the brake pedal switch, it might be out of adjustment or someone might have kicked it by accident.
