Burned cds Honda says that the extended warranty would cover it IF you hadn't used burned cds. the owner manual says not to use them because they are a different thickness and get stuck in the gears. they say that you have to read the owner manual cover to cover and are responsible. they say it would be $400-500 if they say the problem is only the burned cds. otherwise they would pay for it on warranty. the guy also said that I shouldn't put diesel in the car but that the sales guy does not tell you that either.

Rubbish.
Cd, is CD sized!
Ask him Where, Exactly, in the manual, Ask him to point it out!
Bear in mind, always, that NO Company, Insurance co, or huge coorperation, likes to pay out.
You WILL have to be clear and forceful, but not too aggressive, in order for them to realize, that YOU are the customer, and That, makes you RIGHT!
Go take it to em'!

Are we still elligeble for the recall replacement if we bought our oddyssey from a private party?

Not for something that old. There is no warranty. You can check with Honda, but I doubt it. And it shouldn't matter if you are the second or third or fourth owner. Check it out. If Honda makes it good, I will buy a Honda.

My car started ran and shut off within 5 sec. Could the coil have going bad. The car cranks but does not turn over.

Yes a weak or faulty ignition coil could cause this, but first some troubleshooting is required. The engine needs three things to run, compression, fuel and spark. Take away one of those three things and there is a problem. Check for spark. Check for fuel pressure and a broken t-belt will cause compression loss so that needs checked too. The good news is your vehicle may still be covered by an extended emissions warranty all 96 & 97 honda models except passports are covered for 14 years or up to 150,000 miles which ever comes first. Have your local honda dealer run a VIN Status inquiry to see if your vehicle is covered. if it is you might want to get the vehicle to the dealer for diag because anything emissions related is covered under this warranty ext. Were talkn' coils, ignitors, spark plugs, injectors control units the list goes on, sorry a broken T-belt is not covered. Also in this extended warranty is one complementry Tune-up which includes; spark plugs, dist cap, rotor, plug wire replacement and an oil change between 75-150k miles. -good luck, I hope this helps.

I have a 2001 Grand Jeep Cherokee w/over 100K miles. Am I better off trying to get some form of extended warranty, or just have whatever they recommend for 100K miles (per owners manual). The warranties...

I think extende warranty is just a precaution and it might not be so much useful if you are mainting it properly with specified service at specified miles...So keep driving and do the specified services when it reaches specified miles as per owners manual..
