DTC P0243 - Turbo/Super Charger Wastegate Solenoid A
Description: Open or shorted condition detected in the turbocharger wastegate solenoid control circuit.

When Monitored: When the ignition is on.
Set Condition: The ECM detects an open or short circuit in the Wastegate solenoid circuit.

Possible Causes
DAMAGED WIRING HARNESS OR CONNECTORS
WASTEGATE SOLENOID
(F504) FUSED IGNITION SWITCH OUTPUT OPEN
(K139) WASTEGATE SOLENOID DRIVER CIRCUIT OPEN
(K139) WASTEGATE SOLENOID CIRCUIT SHORTED TO GROUND
(K139) WASTEGATE SOLENOID DRIVER SHORTED TO VOLTAGE
(K139) WASTEGATE SOLENOID DRIVER CIRCUIT SHORTED TO ANOTHER CIRCUIT
ECM
INTERMITTENT CONDITION

Always perform the Pre-Diagnostic Troubleshooting procedure before proceeding. (Refer to 9 - ENGINE - DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING)

Diagnostic Test
1. DAMAGED WIRING HARNESS OR CONNECTORS

Turn Ignition off.
Disconnect the ECM harness connectors.
Disconnect the Wastegate Solenoid harness connector.

NOTE: Check connectors - Clean/repair as necessary.


Are any wires or pins damaged?

Yes
Repair or replace any damaged wire or connectors.
Perform POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST VER - 1 (DIESEL).

No
Go To 2


2. WASTEGATE SOLENOID

Reconnect the ECM harness connector.
Reconnect the disconnected Wastegate Solenoid harness connector.
Turn the Ignition on, engine not running.
Disconnect the Wastegate Solenoid harness connector.
Connect an incandescent test light across the supply and driver pins at the Wastegate Solenoid harness connector.

NOTE: The ECM will perform a self check of the circuit after approximately 30 seconds, which should light the incandescent test light.


Does the light illuminate brightly after 30 seconds of being connected?

Yes
Replace the Wastegate Solenoid.
Perform POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST VER - 1 (DIESEL).

No
Go To 3


3. (F504) FUSED IGNITION SWITCH OUTPUT OPEN

Connect an test light between the Wastegate Solenoid connector Fused ignition switch output circuit and battery negative.
Compare the test light brightness to that of a direct connection to the battery.

Does the light illuminate brightly?
Yes
Go To 4

No
Repair the open (F504) Fused Ignition switch output circuit.
Perform POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST VER - 1 (DIESEL).



4. (K139) WASTEGATE SOLENOID DRIVER CIRCUIT OPEN

Disconnect the ECM harness connectors.
Measure the resistance of the Wastegate Solenoid driver circuit between the Wastegate Solenoid harness connector and the ECM harness connector.

Is the resistance less than 10 Ohms?
Yes
Go To 5

No
Repair the open (K139) Wastegate Solenoid control circuit.
Perform POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST VER - 1 (DIESEL).


5. (K139) WASTEGATE SOLENOID CIRCUIT SHORTED TO GROUND

Measure the resistance of the (K139) Wastegate Solenoid driver circuit between the Wastegate Solenoid harness connector and battery negative.

Is the resistance less than 10 Ohms?
Yes
Repair the (K139) Wastegate solenoid circuit shorted to ground.
Perform POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST VER - 1 (DIESEL).

No
Go To 6


6. (K139) WASTEGATE SOLENOID DRIVER SHORTED TO VOLTAGE

Measure the voltage between the (K139) Wastegate Solenoid driver circuit at the Wastegate Solenoid connector and battery negative.

Is the voltage less than 1 volt?
Yes
Go To 7

No
Repair the (K139) Wastegate solenoid driver shorted to voltage.
Perform POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST VER - 1 (DIESEL).


7. (K139) WASTEGATE SOLENOID DRIVER CIRCUIT SHORTED TO ANOTHER CIRCUIT

Measure the resistance between the (K139) Wastegate Solenoid driver circuit in the ECM harness connector and all other circuits in the ECM harness connectors.

Is the resistance less than 10 Ohms?
Yes
Repair the (K139) Wastegate solenoid circuit shorted to another circuit.
Perform POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST VER - 1 (DIESEL). (Refer to 9 - ENGINE - DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING)


No
Go To8


8. WASTEGATE SOLENOID

Reconnect the ECM harness connector.
Reconnect the disconnected Wastegate Solenoid harness connector.

Automatic Transaxle > P0755 Underdrive Solenoid Valve Circuit - Open or Short(GND). Automatic Transaxle > P0760 Second Solenoid Valve Circuit - Open or Short(GND). Automatic Transaxle > P0765 Overdrive Solenoid Valve Circuit - Open or Short(GND). Wether your vehicle is equipped with a 4 cylinder or v6 ,all the codes are for either engine models. Check your main wire harness that plugs into the top of the transmission and verify,that a good connection is present. if all looks ok and the vehicle still exibits the same symptoms. The problem may also be in the ECM/TCM control module itself. A Hyundai dealer would have the proper scan tool and tester to verify and perform actuation tests on the shift solendoids themselves to make sure they are working correctly. This does not mean that the transmission itself has failed. You basically have an open circuit somewhere that the solenoids are not getting a good ground. Hope this helps.

P0029 - Exhaust Valve Control Solenoid Circuit Range/Performance Bank 2
Causes:
- Dirty engine oil
- Low engine oil level
- Exhaust valve control solenoid circuit open or shorted
- Exhaust valve control solenoid circuit poor electrical connection
- Faulty exhaust valve control solenoid

Solutions:
- Change oil
- Replace exhaust valve control solenoid

P0047 - Turbocharger/Supercharger Boost Control A Circuit Low
This vehicle is not equipped with a turbocharger or supercharger if it is a 1994.

P0137 - o2 Sensor Circuit Low Voltage Bank 1 Sensor 2
Causes:
- Sensor circuit harness or connectors is open or shorted
- Rear heated oxygen sensor Bank 1 may be faulty
- Fuel pressure may be faulty
- Fuel injector may be faulty
- Intake air leaks

Solution:
Replacing the O2 Sensor 2 usually takes care of the problem.

P0107 - Manifold Absolute Pressure/Barometric Pressure Circuit Low Input
Causes:
- Damage harness or connectors
- MAP sensor circuit is open or shorted
- MAP sensor
- Damaged PCM or ECM

Solutions:
- If damage, repair MAP sensor harness or connector
- Replace MAP sensor
- Replace PCM or ECM

P1004 - SHORT RUNNER VALVE CONTROL PERFORMANCE

Sound like something came loose. If you cannot find it you need to take it to the dealer so they can perform these diagnostics. Should be under warranty.

The engine performance and power output is enhanced through the use of the "short runner valve" (SRV) system. The SRV system allows the intake charge air to bypass the long intake manifold runners between the intake manifold plenum and the intake manifold interface to the cylinder heads by providing a shorter runner directly between the plenum and the cylinder head interface.

The SRV position is controlled by a pneumatic/spring actuator and electronic solenoid valve. When the solenoid is not energized (the "rest" position), the SRV is held in the closed position. When the solenoid is energized the SRV is moved and held in its opened position. There is a set of enable conditions including a minimum engine coolant and ambient temperature, SRV enable, and Powertrain Coordinator load enable condition. If any of these conditions are not met, then the SRV valve is de-energized (closed).

* When Monitored: With the engine run time above a calibrated value, battery voltage greater than 10.4 volts, ECT within a specific range, and the Short Runner Valve Assembly (SRV) control active.
* Set Condition: The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) compares the circuit feedback to a calibrated closed range, between 75% & 85% Pulse Width Modulated (PWM) duty cycle, when the circuit is de-energized or to a calibrated open range, between 35% & 55% PWM duty cycle, when the circuit is energized. If the value is determined to be out of the calibrated range in either the de-energized, greater than 85% duty cycle or less than 75% duty cycle, or energized, greater than 55% duty cycle or less than 35% duty cycle, state for more than a calibrated amount of time, this DTC will set.

2005 Neon engine light came on and stays on. Car drives okay. Has around 34,000 miles. No other problems


Take it to Autozone or Advanced auto and get an engine diagnostic and ask them to printout the results. Most times it's a sensor.
