If your here just one click when you turn the key to start then i suspect you have a starter going bad.If you heard several clicks while turning the key over once then that would be a weak battery.:)

If your car has a separate starter solenoid, I wouldn't replace the starter just yet.
Things you should do 1st:
- A couple of dollars will buy a battery terminal and clamp cleaner, a female wire brush for the terminal (post) and a a male for the clamp. - Clean those (remove negative terminal 1st, replace it last) and try it again. - If that didn't help, remove the negative terminal from the battery (or solenoid if separate), access the starter (positive) terminal, remove and clean that. - Reattach the positive lead to the starter (or solenoid if separate), then the negative battery terminal and try to start again.
If these steps haven't helped and you now know where the solenoid is located, the cheapest multimeter (under $20 US at Radio Shack or auto parts stores) will let you check before and after the starter solenoid to see if 12 volts are at both points (input and output terminals) with the key turned (by a helper).
If the solenoid is working with the key at the 'start' position; 12 volts in and out, then go to one of the auto parts chain stores and ask them for a starter check.

Could be the key switch, or the starter, or another component.
You would need to check for power at the starter terminals when the key is in the start position.

2005 chrysler 300 key turns and it just clicks or does not do nothing

If you turn key to "RUN" position and your getting power to all accessories such as windows, radio wiper etc. then your most likely looking at a starter motor issue. When turning the key to "START" and you hear a slight click but keep turning it several times and it finally cranks over then the contacts inside the starter are not making good contact so as you continue to turn to the start position, it turns slightly until it gets good contact and finally spins the starter.
If your mechanically inclined you could take it apart and clean the contacts on the armature otherwise just cheaper to replace it.

Ignition switch will not activate starter motor consistently. Sometimes no, sometimes with a second click of key. Cleaned ignition switch contacts and wire harness connector contacts. Could a relay be the...

Bad ignition switch and starter symptoms are similar. The engine will turn sometimes and will not turn some other times. If it is the switch you will not even here a clicking sound. If the starter is bad you might hear a clicking. If the distributor is bad than the engine will turn every time but it will not start running or will start but not run properly (misfire).

I had the same problem with my 1995 Cutlass Supreme. Finally it would not start at all and I noticed the security light on the dash would not go off after I turned the key. It wound up being the ignition switch. I replaced it and no problems. The only trouble is that your old ignition keys do not work with the new switch.

I had the exact same problem, yes it was the heater control valve, the repair was 285.00. The tech that replaced it told me it is a common problem for the Galant. He said that if you keep your temp selector on either all hot or all cold that it keeps constant pressure on the plastic gear teeth in the valve. As they break off one by one you begin to hear that clicking noise as the dont catch. When you finally break off the last one it stops working.

According to him if you always leave the dial at least one notch from fully hot or fully cold you will not experience a failure of the switch

Truck sometimes starts and sometimes wont. i hear a clicking soun

Unbolt and clean your battery terminals if dirty or corroded, preferably replace the bolts (good auto parts stores stock them, and they take some effort to remove and replace them but it's necessary to properly clean the terminals anyway) charge, jump or replace battery ... connect battery terminals and don't over tighten ... start the truck, check charging system gauges confirm charging voltage over 12V 13.8V-14.5V and lights should be bright as normal ... if so, you may be fixed ... if not you have charging system issues, that will be the next post if needed.
