Question about Hyundai Motor 2003 Elantra

1 Answer

2003 Hyundai ELantra shifts hard sometimes after proceeding thru a stop sign or a red light. My mechanic says my car is fine drived for 20 minutes the noise don't occur. Later in the night the noise is there. He says I should leave the car overnight so they can drive it once an hour during the day. He mentioned a fuel pump recall for cars bought on the west coast. Does anyone know what this problem can be. Is the mechanic giving me the runaround Please advise.

Is the shifting due to the transmision? or the engine? i had a friend who's car did something simular, diffrent car though and a older model. turns out, it indeed was the fuel pump, when they thought it was the tranny. try some Lucas for the transmission. if that dont help then i would let the mechanic drive it.

I recommend you hook up a scanner and view the data coming off the tps, map, etc. while driving. I'm thinking the tps may be going out and does not drop properly when you take your foot off the pedal. The pcm may not be engaging the iac until the truck dies and is restarted. You need live data to solve this problem.

Thats definatly a crankshaft positioning sensor the reason why it dies after 20 minutes is heat expand and cold retracts kinda the same with the senor as it heats up it loses contact it is located back side of the head on the upper right about an inch below the valve cover

I think this car has a torque converter lock up. sometimes they freeze up when the the pcm makes 1:1 to the motor and transmission. this could be the shifting problem.

My 1998 Hyundai Elantra automatic will not go in reverse and slows down when driving forward...could somebody please tell me what's going on?

If you have not done so already, check the transmission fluid level. If you are low on fluid, there is a chance that adding fluid to the correct level may solve the problem. The fluid level should be checked with the car idling and the shift lever in neutral. There are two sets of Hi/Low marks on the transmission dipstick, one for Cold (car just started) and one for Hot (car running for 20 minutes or more). Use Hyundai recommended SPIII fluid. However, this does seem like a more serious transmission problem. Take the car to a qualified transmission mechanic.

Is the check engine light on? If it is, take the car to an autoparts store and have them use a scan tool to retrieve any fault code(s) that are stored in the car's computer. Most parts stores offer this service at no charge. The fault code(s) will help identify problems/potential problems. That's better than guessing. Hope this helps you and best wishes.
