Rear wheels are squeaking when the brakes is applied

if its discs on the rear then the pads will need a copper based grease (coppaslip) on the backing (metal side)
squeaking is caused by metal to metal vibration, not the pad lining itself.
if you have rear drums they will need cleaning out.

The brakes on my 03 Cavalier (rear brakes) freeze up in snow or rain...I check and they don't need replaced but something is seriously wrong with the rear brakes...during dry weather they squeak or squeal.

They may have been installed incorrectly. You may have the drums rusting. Have the drums turned & at least a new hardware kit installed properly. You may also want to change the shoes. Good luck!

I went to leave work this evening and my car had a terrible rumble when I applied the brakes. Not a squeak or grind, but a low loud rumble. what could it be? 2003 alero with only 35000 miles

You could have lost a brake pad. You need to take the tires off and look at the brake shoes and pads. Try and determine when you drive if the noise is coming from the front or the back. Will narrow it down some.

I have a 2003 ford escape we put new brakes on the rear .

Local auto parts store should have stuff you put on all the contact points for breaking system should stop squeaking noises almost immediately.

Rear defrost, service engine soon, and squeak from rear of car

Sounds like the wheel bearing... try jacking the car up and moving the rotor forward or backward. if you hear a grinding noise, or if the rotor moves sideways... like rock it.. then its definately that. I have the same problem with the service engine soon light... try removing the positive on the battery then waiting 30 seconds and putting back on. should reset the cpu.

Squeak in front end

Okay....I have been working on my boss' car for a week with this SAME issue....first....try to figure out the spot it is coming from. This part is the pain. Second, have a can of WD-40 and spray it into any joint you find. This squeek could be from an upper bushing, a lower bushing, an A arm bushing, or any other bushing on that side....so start out with this method first because it will only cost you a few dollars, or free if you have it already. But do one at a time till you find it. Then, you'll know what item to replace.
