Did you get the spark plugs from Honda? If you put anything but factory plugs.....especially cheap ones....that's the first thing I would fix. I've worked with Honda's for over 20years, and I will tell you they don't like aftermarket plugs.....ANY BRAND! Get them from your dealer, or look for someone that sells NGK or Nippon Denso plugs. Trust me on this. Then if you still have probs, check for other faults. (fuel pressure, valve adjustment, etc)

My 1996 oldsmobile 88 has been running terrible for the last month and gets worse every week. It won't go when I have the gas pedal floored sometimes, and then it will slowly get up to speed but takes...

Hello there good man or woman

Lets start off like this there is 50 different things that can cause these issues but will start with the simple things in a list. So here it goes

1. bad spark plugs (carbon fouled, fuel fouled, oil fouled, heat glazed, or just worn out rounded electrode's )
2. spark plug wires (there is no simple way to check this but there cheap and easy to try)
3. distributor cap & igniton rotor (or coil pack if so equipped) could be corroded carbon glazed heat glazed again thought both rotor button and distributor cap are cheap and easy to change. If it is a coil cheap to and just as easy on both this is were plug wires connet to on the oppsite end of spark plugs.
4. coil pick up (this sits underneath distributor cap and rotor and is cheap and easy to fix aswell)
5. clogged air filter
6. bad pcv valve
7. bad egr valve
8. bad fuel pressure regulator
9.bad fuel pump or clogged strainer
10. vaccum line leaking or off

I know with all that being said may sound overwelming but most are easy to fix and cheap this is what i would so first do a good tune up this includes new spark plugs , plug wires, air filter , pcv valve, fuel filter distributor cap and rotor (or coil pack if so equipped ) .

That will most likley fix your problem

If it helps please leave 4 thumbs up and if it works a testomnial thanks

How do you change the spark plugs....can't seem to get the spark plug wires off/loose....don't want to break by continued pulling on them

U DIDNT SPECIFY YEAR BUT SOUNDS LIKE THEY HAVE BEEN ON THE PLUGS FOR A WHILE AND OXIDATION SETS IN ON CONNECTOR. IF YOUR HAVING THAT MUCH OF A PROBLEM A SET OF WIRES MAY BE NECESSARY. IF U CANT GET THEM OFF BY HAND YOUR LOCAL PARTS STORE SHOULD SELL SPARK PLUG WIRE REMOVAL PLIERS. THEY ARE USUALLY PRETTY CHEAP. AND WHEN U PUT THE NEW ONES ON SPARK PLUG BOOT GREASE IS CHEAP AND WORKS WONDERS SO THE NEXT TIME THIS WONT HAPPEN

It is missing when i first start it and check

Hi:
It seems that your intermittent problem could be a cheap fix,and you can try a few things that might fix or eliminate the problem. Since the code pointed to the #1 cylinder misfire, You could change out your spark plugs and spark plug wires as a possible cause. If it doesn't fix it, they were 5-6 years old, and a new set isn't a bad investment. If the problem persists, then you are looking at a ignition coil, coil pack, distributor cap/ rotor, depending on your particular engine. Often if you have an ignition module failing, it will affect all cylinders misfiring, often randomly , so once you change your plugs and wires, have someone clear the check engine light, so if it comes back on ,you can check to see what the new code problem is...I hope you get a cheap fix!

Car is reluctant to start then has a tendency to stall when I try to move. Feels like when you run out of gas, even though tank is full.

No engine lights? If not, then could be a clogged fuel filter, easy fix. Probably not the fuel pressure regulator, but maybe the fuel pump.. Another cheap fix is fuel injector cleaner...listen for even ticking sound in fuel injectors.
It is easier to check the ignition system first....spark plugs and wires, and coil. You can check these out with a cheap OHM meter and the cars manual for the numbers. Buy a cheap spark tester to check each spark. All of these things can be fixed at home pretty cheap. Good luck.

My 1997 chevy cavalier wont start.its getting spark and fuel.but wont fire it has a 2.2 ecotec.

Sounds like cam belt has snapped. If it broke while starting, could be cheap fix...new belt. Worst case: cylinder head off for overhaul...bent valves / pistons replaced.

Check the fuel pressure. A slight dip in pressure will keep the engine from starting. When is the last time you did a tune up? Even if you are getting some spark you might not have enough. New plugs, wires, distr. cap could solve this problem. Or try a new fuel filter. When diagnosing a car problem always do simple cheap things first, as this usually ends up being the cause.
