  1. Just unhook the battery
  2. Unhook the wiring harness on the alternator
  3. take out the 2 bolts that hold the alternator in
  4. lay the belt to one side
  5. put the new alternator on
  6. slide the belt back on
  7. adjust belt tension
  8. tighten the bolts back down

THE ALTINATOR ON MY PICKUP TRUCK IS NOT PUTTING OUT AMPS TO THE AMP METER. THE BATTERY IS NEW AND THE ALTINATOR IS NEW ALSO, WHY WON'T THE ALTINATOR PUT OUT AMPS ?undefined

What model and make is your truck?
Older vehicles differ widely from later ones. Is the regulator separate from the alternator? If so, you might need to replace the regulator.
On some vehicles, the regulator was booted by the indicator lamp on the dash. If the light does not work (blown), the alternator does not charge.

Run a cable from the battery positive to the fuse box. Don't mess with the wires in the clip they are for the regulator. once you get power to the fuse box, you have power there from the ignition.

Alternator should be charging 14 to 14.5 volts.Your alternator is faulty.
What is commom on VWs,is the alternator bearing to fail, and you can buy the bearing and replace just that...just a few dollars ,instead of a few hundred for a new alternator.

I have a 1991 chevy truck 350 engine 4x4 with air it started back charging the battery so I change the alternator with a new one and now it does not charge now

make sure the old and new one is rated for the same rpm,and amp ratings. also knote if they have the internal regulator, or are externally regulated. where as the altinator may not have been over charging, but the regulator just may not have been doing its job correctly. also some altinators need whats called the (sense) wire hooked up correctly in order to operate.

How do i install an altinator

Disconnect negative battery terminal. Remove serpentine or V-belt running over alternator pulley. Remove nut from back of alternator holding red cable and remove cable termination from post. Disconnect connector from alternator. Remove 2 or 3 bolts holding the alternator in place, and pull alternator out of bracket.
Reverse procedure to reinstall new alternator.

If you have not removed belts before, I can send instructions for that part--just let me know.

1991 Dodge 4x4 truck altinator will not charge, new altinator, all fuses are good and serkets. Altinator will not charge.

Change voltage regulator. Does the battery take a charge from a charger? If not, replace battery. If it does, then regulator is faulty. If still nothing, return alternator to place of purchase, and have it checked.
