Liftgate motor and suspension compressor not turning on.

2004 navigator getting a check suspension and liftgate ajar in hte messasge center. Are this correlated, I have checked all fuses and relay seem to be ok. liftgate will not lock when closed manually.

2004 Lincoln navigator air suspension all the way down front and back if I was to jump the relay to turn compressor on should the truck start raising up unless compressor not pumping or a leak


no it wont. the air suspension works as a complete system. each air spring has an electric solenoid, each corner has an electric height sensor and then the compressor itself. just energizing the compressor will not open the solenoids or sensors both of which are needed to raise the vehicle. what is probably happening is a failure in the computing system for the suspension system. expensive to repair.

On a 2004 Lincoln Navigator the check air suspension light came on. there are no leaks on the lines but the car bounces on the smallest of bumps. Is there a relay or something that has gone bad?


There is a relay an there is a control module that controls everything in the air suspension system an ride height sensors an related wiring ! The control module can have diagnostic trouble codes stored in it's memory as to what the problem could be ! Here are some of the basics to check !
Inspection and Verification
  1. Verify the customer concern.
  1. NOTE: If the door ajar indicator is illuminated when all doors, liftgate, and liftgate glass are closed, the air suspension will not work correctly. Repair door ajar indicator; refer to Section 413-01 . Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical and electrical damage.

  • Restricted suspension movement
  • Excessive vehicle load
  • Cut, severed, crimped air line(s)
  • Unmounted height sensor(s)
  • Damaged front air spring(s)
  • Damaged rear air spring(s)
  • Central junction box (CJB) fuses 11 (10) (later built vehicles), 20 (30A), fuse 27 (5A), and fuse 111 (50A)
  • Loose, corroded, or disconnected connectors
  • Air suspension service switch is in the OFF position
  • Damaged solenoid valve(s)/height sensor(s)
  1. If the inspection reveals an obvious concern that can be readily repaired, correct the concern before continuing with Inspection and Verification.
  1. NOTE: The 4WAS module is also referred to as the Vehicle Dynamic Module (VDM). If the concern remains after the inspection, use the scan tool connected to the data link connector (DLC) to retrieve continuous diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) and to execute On-Demand Self Test diagnostics for the 4WAS module.

2008 Cadillac srx power tailgate opens fine, but won't close with the remote. I can't hear the motor. The auto close button doesn't work either. Is there a fuse or relay? If so where is it?


An electronic control module controls it .
The liftgate module (LGM) controls operation of the liftgate latch motor and the liftgate actuator assembly. Do you have a Liftgate Ajar Indicator ON ? Or a message in the message center driver information center (DIC) illuminates the LIFT GATE AJAR indicator ? The liftgate control module could have a DTC - diagnostic trouble code in memory !

When open, the liftgate can be closed by either a keyless entry transmitter or the liftgate close switch. When a GMLAN serial data message or switch input is seen, the liftgate module begins the close sequence. The liftgate motor is reversed, lowering the liftgate until it latches into the liftgate latch. Once latched, the latch will cinch the liftgate to a fully closed position.
Power liftgate function will only be allowed if certain operating criteria are met. Any of the following may cause the power liftgate not to function:
?€¢ Vehicle is not in park. ?€¢ Engine cranking is present. ?€¢ Temperature limits have been exceeded. ?€¢ Liftgate motor overcurrent is detected. ?€¢ Excessive hall effect counts are seen. ?€¢ System voltage is out of range. ?€¢ A DTC is set that disables power liftgate functionality. The liftgate also receives inputs from 2 object detection sensors. If either of these sensors indicate an object is in the path of the liftgate, liftgate functions will be suspended until the object is removed.

NOTE:If the power liftgate system is turned OFF in the message center, the system cannot be activated with any switches or with the liftgate handle. The system will need to be turned ON for any power operation to occur.

NOTE:The power liftgate may not operate under the following conditions:

  • a low voltage or dead battery.
  • a disconnected battery
  • a power liftgate that has been left open for more than six hours.
  • a power liftgate that has been manually closed and left ajar.

Do you have power lift gate ?
The power liftgate may not operate under the following conditions:
  • a low voltage or dead battery.
  • a disconnected battery.
  • a power liftgate that has been left open for more than six hours.

U1900 Missing CAN message(s) Door(s) ajar, PRNDL, 4x4, instrument cluster (IC), running boards, vehicle speed REFER to Section 418-00 . U2023 Invalid CAN message(s) Door(s) ajar, PRNDL, 4x4, instrument cluster (IC), running boards, vehicle speed REFER to Section 418-00 .
L4 CHECK THE VDM FOR DOOR AJAR INPUT
  • Key in ON position.
  • Monitor VDM door position status PID.
  • Close all doors, liftgate, liftgate glass and power running boards.
  • While observing the diagnostic tool, open and close one door.
  • Does the door status PID change between CLOSED and AJAR states?
When you open an close the driver door you have no PID change ,right ?
L4 CHECK THE VDM FOR DOOR AJAR INPUT
  • Key in ON position.
  • Monitor VDM door position status PID.
  • Close all doors, liftgate, liftgate glass and power running boards.
  • While observing the diagnostic tool, open and close one door.
  • Does the door status PID change between CLOSED and AJAR states?
The door ajar input is an input to the Vehicle Security Module , then transmitted over the bus ! You'll have to find a diagram for the med. speed CAN data bus .

There are 3 switches above the rear view mirror. The middle one controls the back windows. Push up to open and down to close.

2004 lincoln navigator ,doors will not open rear hatch will not unlock


The door locks are controlled by the vehicle security module (VSM). It gets power from fuses 30, 5, 6, and 40 in the central junction box (CJB). You say you checked these and all are OK. Therefore the problem must be in the door lock actuators, the door lock relays, or the door lock switches. I doubt that all of these are defective, so the VSM may be defective.

The liftgate is controlled by the power liftgate module (PLM), althogh the motor in the liftgate glass actuator is controlled by the VSM. The PLM gets power from fuses 105 and 5 in the CJB. If the PLM is assumed to be OK, the source of the problem could be the liftgate unlatch motor, the liftgate cinching motor, the L/R liftgate obstacle detection strips, the liftgate home position switch, the liftgate fork bolt/detent switch. or the power liftgate open/close switch
