Jammed/locked ignition swith - 2000 Chev Suburban 1500

When I started the car it jammed in the start position briefly. I was able to return it to the standard running position, but was then unable to turn it either forward or backward. I finally shut off the vehicle by removing the ignition fuse after which I disconnected the battery.

Vehicle has 117k miles, regularly and religiously serviced, maintained. No prior indication of trouble, just suddenly ignition swith unmovable.

Is there a known history of this ? Is it something I should be on lookout for again?

The tumblers have worn out and not engaeing properly. Repair consists of removeing the ignition switch assembly and installiing a new one. Since it has jammed, mostly a tumbler or two may have broken off in the cylinder houseing also.

To much weight on the key chain will do this after a few years of stress on the ignition cylinder. Take not that your truck is almost 9 years old and if you have lots of keys on the key chain, most likely that is where your problem is to the failure of the ignition lock. Have a lock smith who is familiar with the pass-lock system to replace the ignition lock and reprogram the ignition keys so your security will not lock out the engine from starting. The dealer can do this also but i find the lock smith is a bit reasonable then the dealer and you don't have to tow the truck to the dealer. The lock smith can come out to you. Good luck and hope this helps.

If you just have a light on the dash on go to autozone and they will extract the codes and tell you what's wrong before spending money where you don't have to!

Short of helpful. It just seems so solid like it is being blocked all other gears work fine only park is jammed. it's a 2005, 1500 chev suburban,

Chek if you have enogh oil on the transmission, if the oil level is ok you have to chek the nossel for that gear if there is anything blocking it....

This should work in most cases...

My key wont turn my ignition on my 2001 dodge stratus what could be making this happen?

The steering lock is most likely jammed or possibly broken in the ignition locking position. Most cars have a plastic slide in the ignition which can become sticky and not return or the spring return mechanism wears out. Best to start by taking the ignition to bits and see if the plastic slide is stuck. light oil or WD40 should do the trick for a long time.

Need to re-program 2000 Chev.C3500 key fob need help

1. Close all doors
2. Insert key into ignition
3. Hold down the power UNLOCK button on the driver's door panel, continue to hold down
until instructed to release in step 9.

4. Perform steps 5 through 8 in a fairly rapid succession.
5. Turn the ignition to the ON position (as far as you can go without starting the engine.)
6. Turn the ignition to the OFF position.
7. Turn the ignition to the ON position (as far as you can go without starting the engine.)
8. Turn the ignition to the OFF position.
9. Release the power UNLOCK button on the door panel. The vehicle should respond by
door locks locking and unlocking automatically. (If locks do not cycle after you let go,
not before you let go of the unlock button, then the vehicle has not entered programming
mode and you must start procedure over. Remove key from ignition, open drivers door
and return to step 1 ). If the locks do cycle automatically then proceed to step 10.

10. Hold down the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons on the remote until the doors lock and
unlock. This may take up to 30 seconds.

11. Repeat step 10 NOW for each additional remote. (Including any existing remotes).
12. Turn the ignition to the ON position to exit the programming mode.
13. Test remote(s).

2004 suburban starter motor clicking but wont engage flywheel.Battery checkb uckfloyd944@yahoo.comed good,no corrosion on terminals. What do I check next?

It could be many things, of course the most common is the battery, and you say that is good. Even when you tryed boosting, i assume?
If it's not the battery, it might not be all the way in park. I have even heard of people rocking the vehicle back and forth in park to make it go all the way in to park, and start.
Next thing it could be is broken , loose or disconnected wires in the starting circuit. Inspect all wires at the battery , starter solenoid, and ignition switch.
Still nothing. Faulty starter solenoid.
Faulty starter.
Ignition switch.
Starter motor pinion jammed in your ring gear.
Let me know how you make out. Good luck.
