This is not something that you should really panic about. The older style BMW Dash bords still use old light style technology and did not at the time start using an LED contented directly to the bored... There could either be a blown globe or a loose connection at the back of the dials them self..

Hi, if the car stay for long time the computer box lost memory. Now is not reading the key. You need to program your key again by BMW manufacturer. Also on bmw the alarm is connected to computer box too.

Try turning the key on to the run position and leaving it there for about 90 seconds before starting the car. That was how we reset the brake wear indicator on the e36 model so it may work the same on the e46.

possibly a problem with the button on the end of the stalk.
sounds like your indicator stalk needs changed out.
I had a similar problem with the other side and my intermittent wipers. changed the stalk and it was all good.

It sounds like the dreaded LKM light control module. It fails leaving only 1 light on with all lights off and ignition off.Try www.bba-reman.com they have a list of common faults for BMW. Good luck.

Hi, have you checked to see if the bulb for the parking light/side light is working in the headlight?

Engine tempature probe on block is bad and grounded inside, or the wire leading to the engine block heat sensor is shorted to ground. 

take the bulb back out and clean inside the bulb holder, there may be some corrosion or other debris in there
