Timing marks for a 1995 chevy Monte Carlo 3.1 v-6

Chiltons manual shows a drawing & not a Photo of what it should be, but it also says # 1 cyl. @ TDC & # 4 cyl. firing.

Well I guess I am STUPID but when the crank gears Dot is aligned with the pointer as the drawing shows it # 1 cyl is @ BDC I have had the harmonic balancer on & off so many times now that I don't need the Puller anymore........ I did get it to run once on a shot in the dark, but aligning the Harmonic with the mark on the cover(forget the crank gear dot,
and the Cam gear dime size circle point down to the center line of the crank and switched the plug wires 180 degrees from the coil pack and advanced them all up 1 spot in the firing order and it did start, to be so close en yet so far my gray hair is much grayer now.
And for more ensight as to why GM is faced with Bankruptcy well they mad a car that just about no-one can fix driving half of the american public to buy import cars and we ALL scratch our head & *** & wonder why we are in this depression---------GREED!!!!
Now days I drive my other American made car down the street only to follow a Import Pickup with SemperFi on the Back & American Flag in the Back window with a bumper sticker saying support our troops???????????
I am ALL American being the grandson of a WWII Soldier, we would be ousted from the family if we even considered buying a import auto back then and now over half of american is pollutted & is polluting american soil with them not to mention the yearly salarys that all went to foreign goverments & companys and we ALL Allowed it to happen within just 1 generation of time.
I know I may get some hate mail for my words & I might not get the answer to my question answered So in the Grand scheme of things 100 years from now none of you will have remembered this thread anyway.

Try replacin the crank sensor if you have done that ignition control module is bad

It's on TDC so align marks on cam shaft and crank shaft with center of cam & crank shafts and the ECM will go from there. so you will have to change the timing chain if its loose or worn out.

you need to buy haynes repair manual it will show you the camshaft sprocket and crankshaft sprocket timing marks and manual will show and tell you how to remove timing need lots of tool and a engine light support engine you have to remove oil pan so bottom part timing cover will seal correctly if you dont remove oil pan bottom timing cover seal will be in a bind you will have oil leak.

How do u reset the timing on a 1995 chevy monte carlo 3100 engine.

Advice of Haynes manual is worth it . But to answer your Intake ?? if it is intake manifold gasket there are 3 of them . The upper planium is the Aluminum part the Air intake hose attaches TOO - a common GM loss of pressure gasket causing rough idle / drivebility issues . Then # 2 gasket is lower intake mounting to antifreeze carrying Intake manifold same air pressure loss. ## 3 is Intake base mounting to cylinder heads and has coolant carried in it to keep air / fuel mix charge cold . Now U see you did not remove cylinder heads so the Timing belts or heads not have been disturbed = no need to set timing . Timing is set by computer via sensors and Belt Load / Tension under Rpm . If you have loose / worn out Timing belt then engine will rattle when applying power in gear with foot on brake - it may stall under test I described and not want to restart - That would be reason to Look at resetting Timing issues . Need to know where the timing marks are on a 1995 Monte Carlo

3.4l double overhead cam ? i'm told the 95 is the only 1 with non-interference valves when the timimg belts go out . once you have the crank on #1 top dead center and your positive, there should be a notch in the top of the flywheel . and the cams on the firewall side will have flat spots facing down while the front side will have both cam flatspots facing up .anyways that's a rough idea what you need to get it to do.

We took apart a engine on a 1999 chevy monte carlo and cant remember where all the parts go is there a engine diagram that will help

Your best bet would be to get a Chiltons Engine Manual for that specific vehicle.
You can check out the Haynes manuals at Pep-boys & Autozone at the same time, they are less expensive, but they usually they don't give a complete illustration as the Chiltons manuals do. Chiltons are available there also & you could ask for a copied page.

you need to take the upper and lower steering column covers off, should be 3 screws in bottom, take tilt steering lever out if neccessary, it is a 2 peice cover, take apart, change switch and put back together
