Sounds like fuel pump relay. This should come on the moment the ignition is switched on to pressurise the system. It then is on a timer and will go off after a few seconds if the engine isn't cranked. Find out where it is and see if it is a normal relay (no electronics inside) in which case, the fuel pump is controlled by the ECU. If electronics inside, then it is the timer type of relay and it would be worth considering replacing.

Suggested Solution 2002 Land Rover Discovery Series II Logo Problem with 2002 Discovery Series II Starts fine when cold, after running dies on idle then wont start 2002 land rover discovery, starts fine...

The ignition system is controlled by the ECM. Check power at fuse box in on right side under dash. Check fuses right side engine compartmentlower dash panel if all OK check power to ECM located right side "A" pillar in alloy box. this unit could be faulty if no spark at coils, assuming they have been connected correctly. may have to get tested for codes at L/R dealer or someone with test tool. Another source of problem may well be flat battery in transponder key. The indicator light on the dash willflash rapidly for 10 seconds if the vehicle has been unlocked with the remote and the drivers door is opened if the battery in remote is getting low

Install new crank sensor on 2001 land rover discovery, now it doesn't start

Car not starting or turning over indicates towards multiple possibilities. It can be issue with battery or weak battery. But if battery checks out ok, then it can be starter issue or faulty alternator or problem with low fuel pressure or no spark at spark plugs due to dirty spark plugs or faulty ignition coil or injectors getting cracked or dirty and needs to be cleaned.

To confirm the problem, the basic troubleshooting is required.

BAD spark! check plugs wires and coil packs. the wires are a real pain to replace because of the location of the coil packs between the intake manifold and firewall.

I have a 98 Land Rover Discovery that upon starting pops and smells of burnt matches. Just wondering what this could be. thank you.

it sounds like the fuel isnt being burned completely, in other words, it's a misfire. hook it up to a scanner and check for codes. to find out which cylinders are misfiring. chances are it needs spark plugs, wires, and or coil packs.

No fire

Is the coil down the back of the engine? If so, these had problems with water ingress, and the HT lead shorting out. Also had a multi function control box on the bulkhead, it is a black box approx 4in x 3in x1.5 with a multiplug on bottom. Check for water damage
