Question about Chevrolet 1500

1 Answer

Replaced starter and now wont start again but turns over quickly

Started my truck one morning, noticed it was a little loud. got to a gas station a short distance away and tried to shut it down. when i turned it off the starter kept trying to start my truck even when the key was off. after three of four tries while the engine was turning it finally cut the power to the starter. had to replace the starter but when we tried to start the truck it seems that its not getting fuel, turns over very well though. i can hear the fuel pump buy its not as loud as it used to be. hooked up my code reader and there were no diagnostic codes showing up, this is wierd because there are always codes. just discovered prob tonite so havent tested fuel pump yet,

Sounds like the Gas filter. Fairly easy fix. Locate gas tank. Follow gas line to engine, about half way usually by back door under the car, drivers side, is the small filter. Take a pic of it. Head over to car parts store. Show them what you need. It only takes a wrench and a bucket to catch a little gas.

when replacing the starter was there an aluminum heat shield?
It would go between starter and the block. It may have been
discarded earlier and would solve the problem.

They jumped your starter making a connection on the starter solenoid. remove the starter, and go to the auto parts store, and have it tested. I would believe your starter is having problems. banging on the starter mean the armature is sticking and your starter wont spin. Have them check it out, I am most certain you need a new one. hope this helps. let me know

My truck was driving fine, stopped at a gas station for coffee. when i went to start my truck nothing, i have power on instrument panel but it wont turn at all, like its a dead battery. I tried to have it...

The object in question is the solenoid starter switch to the starter motor. Since the starter requires a very large current the switch must have a very large pressure and contact to give that extra connection. So if this humming , it can also be that the starter has failed , is not contacting with the brush and so not turning.
You will need to check the voltage to the starter to confirm, if so repair or replace starter/ starter solenoid as required.

Dunno if it is your problem but have had this same 'died without warning' effect from nothing more than a corroded battery clamp or terminal at the starter with the same problem.

A cheap multimeter will tell you if there is any life at all and by measuring at the terminals when having someone turn the key, then doing the same at the clamps themselves will tell you quickly if it is simply failed contact at the battery.
If the battery measures ~ 12.6 volts with no load (nothing turned on) and still the same with the key turned to start, then the terminals are at fault.

Something I have never seen before happened to one of our sons just yesterday; his Optima (costly) battery lost contact INSIDE of the battery!
It measured zilch until we dropped it on the ground (on purpose) then it measured normally 12.6 VDC.
We reinstalled it and again, as soon as he attempted to start the Jeep, even the underhood light went out and didn't come back on and the battery again measured 0 volts.
