Help fellow Expert with brake problem

Hey guys, I'm stumped. I've got issues with my braking when I'm stopping I've got quite a bit of shake in the steering wheel. I have turned the rotors and replaced the pads three times. I went and got a set of calipers from a junkyard to put on but it just heat scored the right side of the car. I recently had all of the suspension on the front end of the car replaced to try and get rid of some funny sounds and the braking problem was going through all of that. I have also replaced both wheel bearings. What could this be? Do I need to just get new rotors/calipers/pads and start over? Let me know. It's probably something simple, but man...Thanks in advance.

You should replace both front rotors with new ones .. most likely its not just one disk that warped it will be both. I have done this many times with many vehicles and its a very cheap and easy fix.I hope this helps

Through out my whole career at the school of hard knocks these symptoms always point to the rotors. I just had to replace a rotor that had been turned and found that this solved my problem. Try the new ones and see if this doesn't help. Post me back and let me know if this helps you out. Good luck keithheavili. My regards cj2176.

Hi guys new to the forum but sadly on christmas night im having a little disaster with my audi a6 c5 quattro auto. Steering started shaking as drove along which got increasingly worse. I pulled over as...

these cars are known for power steering pump issues I would start with the known issues on a car first to avoid wasted time and guessing outside of the known issues I would jump to possible brakes issues or other front end steering racks, axle or bearings but the last two are usually a knocking noise ,, brakes if they are shot will cause a loud grind, but so will bad power steering pumps. best of luck hope this helps..

Why does it shake whenever i let off the gas and shakes real bad when i apply my brakes

If when applying the brakes the steering wheel shakes then your front rotors are warped and at the least need resurfaced and most likely the brake pads replaced. But more likely the rotors are too thin which has allowed them to overheat and warp which causes the shaking. In this case new rotors and pads are in order. If when braking tou feel the shaking in the seat of your pants then most likely the rear brakes are the issue. Same problem as the front, warpage, but your rear brakes are most likely drums. Again, possible resurfacing and new shoes; but more likely new drums and brake shoes.

But I wonder? Did this vibrating just start all of a sudden or maybe after a near accident requiring you to brake very heavily and possibly overheat the brakes. Or my main concern, to keep this from happening again, after pulling some type of trailer that you intend on pulling again. Pulling a trailer without its own brakes puts a much heavier load on your trucks brakes and just repairing them won't keep it from happening again if you ARE pulling a trailer. Higher quality rotors/pads/drums/ and brake shoes can help but if the trailer is too heavy for the truck nothing but installing brakes on the trailer or a lighter trailer will stop you from warping them again.

Lastly, in general when you let off the gas and the whole vehicle shakes the driveshaft/u-joints are common causes. Same with the steering wheel if it shakes when letting off the gas, but only on a 4x4 or AWD vehicle. So check your driveshafts and u-joints and make sure they are tight. But unless you find something obvious there I would wait until you have the brakes sorted out and see if that doesn't stop all the shaking.

Good luck!

Brake lights won't turn on.

Try replacing your brake light switch. Located at the bottom by your brake pedal.

My truck shakes at highway speeds

How old are the tires on the vehicle-sounds like a balance problem that happens at certain speeds. Does the vibration happen at any other speeds? When were the tires balanced last? If balance is ok then check out the steering system for loose and worn parts. There is a possibility of a park brake backing plate rust issue- what is the make and model. Newer trucks use a park brake with 4 wheel disc brake that mounts in the smaller cavity of the rotor on the rear axle. This would cause the noise you describe and the vibration.

WHEN I BRAKE BY A STOP STREET WITH MY 325TI BMW, THEN THERE IS SOME VIBRATION ON THE BRAKE PADDLE

Sounds like you may have warped front rotors. They can be felt in the brake pedal when stopping. The warpage of the rotor actually pushes the caliper piston in and out which is felt by your foot. Another vibration you may feel is the ABS system coming on if there are poor road surfaces. That feels quite a bit different than a warped rotor.

Scraping noise while turning left

Could be your wheel bearing or your axle.Well jack the left side of the car and shake the wheel little bit and see if there is any play on the wheel and also turn the wheel with your hands and hear if there is any strange scrapping.

Shake/Shudder while depressing the brake.

I just changed the brake pads and rotors on my father's 2001 Trooper that he recently purchased because they were shaking just like your were.  He bought it from a mechanic shop and they had put new pads on it but it needed new rotors as well.  If there is noticable groving on the rotors and new pads are installed it can create shaking, sometimes severe, when the brakes are applied.  It sounds like this is what has happened with your vehicle as well.  That being said, I don't consider it a huge safety issue to drive it until you get it fixed, just know that your braking will not be optimal and that it will take you longer to stop than if the brakes were working properly.  All that being said, get them fixed ASAP so you don't have to worry about it.  Who wants to mess with safety right?  Good luck, hope this helps!
