Question about Hyundai Motor 2003 Elantra

1 Answer

Hyundai Elantra I went to my mechanic today to see why my car keeps making these hard gear shifts after proceeding thru a green light or a stop sign every so often. He drove with me for 20 minutes in the car and the problem did not happen at all. He is telling me that there is no problem with the car.I am kind of noticing that this problem may only be happening durng certain times of the day. Is there a reason that this can be happening? They mentioned to me about a recall on 2003 and 2004 Elantras in UTAH and a few other West Cost states that the fuel pump was causing rough idling in certain elevated areas. I live in New JErsey I doubt that is the problem on my car. He is asking me if I can leave my car overnight and that his mechanics can drive the car once every hour to see if they hear the noise that I am talking about. Is it possible that this will only happen in certain areas? I have never had a problem with this mechanic and I am trusting what he is saying Please advise

If the fluid is cold like at start up in the am it could thicken and shift hard until car is warm but if it happens after warm up get ready for a new tranny

I think this car has a torque converter lock up. sometimes they freeze up when the the pcm makes 1:1 to the motor and transmission. this could be the shifting problem.

Did you check the transmission fluid level? If necessary, add fluid. However you probably have a more serious problem. Take the car to a qualified transmission mechanic.

Is the check engine light on? If it is, take the car to an autoparts store and have them use a scan tool to retrieve any fault code(s) that are stored in the car's computer. Most parts stores offer this service at no charge. The fault code(s) will help identify problems/potential problems. That's better than guessing. Hope this helps you and best wishes.

is the shifting due to the transmision? or the engine? i had a friend who's car did something simular, diffrent car though and a older model. turns out, it indeed was the fuel pump, when they thought it was the tranny. try some Lucas for the transmission. if that dont help then i would let the mechanic drive it.
