SOURCE: fuel pump 1998 olds bravada

  1. Properly drain the fuel tank, then disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. If not done already, raise and support the rear of the truck safely using jackstands.
  3. If equipped on late-model vehicles, loosen and remove the tank plastic shield.
  4. Loosen the retaining clamp and disconnect the tank filler hose from the tank neck.
If fuel and vapor hoses or pump/sending unit wiring can be accessed at this time, they may be tagged and disconnected. If not, wait for the retaining straps to be loosened and lower the tank slightly for access.
  1. Tag and disconnect and accessible wiring or hoses from the top of the fuel tank.
  2. Have and assistant support the fuel tank, then remove the fuel tank-to-vehicle straps and, if equipped, the isolation strips. If no assistant is available, position a floor jack to support the tank while the straps are removed.
  3. Lower the tank slightly, then remove the sending unit or sending unit/pump wires, hoses and ground strap. Be sure to label all connections to ease installation.
  4. Carefully lower the fuel tank from the vehicle and store in a safe place.
To install:
  1. Raise the tank partially into position in the vehicle. If you are working without an assistant, you may wish to loosely install one of the retaining straps and use a floor jack to support the tank at an angle so there is access to the sending unit or sending unit/pump assembly (as applicable).
  2. Connect the fuel/vapor hoses and wiring to the top of the fuel tank, as tagged during removal.
  3. Carefully raise the fuel tank so it is fully into position and loosely secure the retaining straps. Make sure the wires and hoses are not pinched or damaged when raising the tank. Also, be sure that the isolation strips (if used) are positioned between the retaining straps and the fuel tank.
  4. It may be easier to connect the fuel filler hose to the tank neck at this time. If desired, connect the hose and secure the clamp.
  5. Tighten the fuel tank retaining strap fasteners to specification. Tighten the strap nuts to 33 ft. lbs. (45 Nm).
  6. If not done earlier, connect the tank filler hose to the tank neck and secure using the clamp.
  7. If equipped, install and secure the tank plastic shield.
  8. Remove the jackstands and carefully lower the rear of the truck.
  9. Refill the fuel tank and install the filler cap, then check for leaks.
  10. Connect the negative battery cable.
Equipped With Shield Package
  1. Properly drain the fuel tank, then disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Raise and support the rear of the truck safely using jackstands.
  3. Remove the shield forward support and bracket.
  4. While supporting the shield and tank assembly with the help of both an assistant and a floor jack, remove the remaining bolts holding the assembly to the frame, then lower it sufficiently for access to the hoses and wires.
  5. Tag and disengage the hoses and wires from the sending unit assembly.
  6. Carefully lower the fuel tank and shield from the vehicle, then if necessary for service or replacement, separate the tank from the shield.
To install:
  1. If separated, install the tank to the shield.
  2. Carefully raise the tank and shield assembly partially into position with the help of an assistant and a floor jack.
  3. Connect the wiring and hoses to the sending unit assembly, as tagged during removal.
  4. Raise the tank and shield assembly fully into position, then secure to the frame using the lower retaining bolts.
  5. Install the shield forward support bracket.
  6. Remove the jackstands and carefully lower the rear of the truck.
  7. Refill the fuel tank and install the filler cap, then check for leaks.
  8. Connect the negative battery cable.

SOURCE: Help replacing fuel pump and sending unit 79 Ford Fairmont

you should have two metal bands/strapes hold the tank in place, a bolt on each end of the strapes. disconnect the fill neck, supply and return lines, the wires for the pump and sending unit. if possible get the fuel level as low as you can. gas is heavy. lift the car up as far as you can, i say 2 and a half to 3 feet off the ground. a car lift is even better. the fuel pump will be held in place with a ring, use a hammer and punch to drive the ring counterclockwise to remove. don't let any dirt go into the tank.

SOURCE: need to replace the fuel tank on a 1994 4Runner,

Hello, welcome to FixYa.

You would do well to purchase the cap/bracket assembly that holds the fuel outlet/return piping, it also holds the fuel pump and the fuel sending unit inside the tank. The chances of you re-using the original one are slim, as rust will have developed on the fuel pipes, and, if you bump them when removing the tank, they will crack. Also, get the bolts that holds the cap/bracket on, too. They do not cost that much. I'd replace the fuel sending unit and the strainer while you are changing the tank, also.

Thanks for choosing FixYa for assistance today!

Where is the fuel pump located on a 1990 ford econoline van

Inside the gas tank. you have to unbolt the two straps holding your tank in place, remove all hoses and wires. pull the tank out from under the van, unbolt the sending unit (normally by blots, or lockring) and pull entire sending unit out. the pump is attached to the sending unit.

1990 ford f150 fuel pumps location

Dependant on your model specifics, either two or one tank assembly, the tanks themselves will have a sending unit inside. You can replace just the pumps for less but you MUST exercise care when removing reinstalling and cleaning. The orig sending unit can be brittle. The plastic parts to specify. If just trying to get a truck running, start with the rear tank, and if you cannot save the tank straps you can ratchet strap the tank to the frame to make it mobile. DONT DROP THE TANK OR LET IT HANG. While under the truck lean the back side of the tank off first and it will give access to the connections you need to remove to drop the tank

How do you change the fuel pump

The fuel pump is in the gas tank, so you will need to first lower the gas tank to get to it. The gas tank is accessed from below the car. The pump and sending unit are mounted together. Remove circular locking ring on top of tank and the unit can be removed.

Let me know how this works out for you.

How to change fuel pump 1990 cadillac seville

The fuel pump and sending unit is located in the tank. I hope your tank is empty, if not you will need to siphon it out. It is dangerous with the gasoline, and remember the fumes burn, not gas. You start by removing the filler hose, then loosen straps, detach sending unit wire and fuel line, then lower tank. Then unscrew the sending unit/pump and replace. reinstall.
