Check coolent level, Radiator fans should come on after a few mins when ac is turned on. On my 97it takes about 1 to 1.5 min. fans should come on and stay on but the computer controls the speed of them. Other things a water pump going out? Is the serpintine belt that drives all the pullys " streched out" the tensoner will only go so far. and last compressor my be on the wayout. but would not cause it to overheat.

Make sure the bearings are good in the belt tensioner and idler pulley and that they all line up best. Use a quality belt and follow belt diagram

Compressor makes a loud squeeky noise

Could just be a worn belt or faulty or loose tensioner. Does it only make noise when AC compressor kicks in? If it's not a metallic sound, and sound more like a screech/squeel, then I'd look close at belt condition, and tension.

I have a 98 dodge caravan, and when you turn on the air con it makes a loud noise like the engine is going to fall out. But after u go above 1500 rpms it goes away.

check if the drive belt that runs the aircon and the water pump is not too loose. When aircon comes on it might be overloading the engine but once the engine picks up things seem to go ok. Alternatively the compressor bearing might be failing.

Serpentine belt keeps coming off
