The boot/pancake seal that covers the spark plug cavity gets old and lifts off of the surface of the head. This allows dust and water to invade the cavity that the spark plug is recessed into. Moisture in the engine compartment will often find its way into the spark plug cavity and short the spark to ground (misfire). Sometimes moisture will cause the COP (coil on plug) to also malfunction. If you have even one plug misfiring, it is wise to clean all the cavities and replace the spark plug boots. You will need an assortment of 1/4" wobble extensions, universal, and 7mm socket to remover the COPs. It can be done without removing the FI rails. #7 spark plug will prove to be the most difficult. You will also need to disconnect adjacent injector and COP electrical connectors (easily done). Do not despair. Visually inspect each cavity using mirrors and contortionist moves. If you see moisture and/or dirt in the cavity, you should clean it out. Get a spray bottle with rubbing alcohol and fill the cavity about half way. Let it soak a few minutes and blow it out with compressed air. Always use eye protection when using compressed air. Inspect for cleanliness and repeat as necessary. A word of advice, do not hesitate to use the aftermarket COPs. They work well and are cost far less than the Motorcraft brand.

Water in spark plug holes in heads!!!!! Spark is jumping through coil plug boots. Remove coil pak and dry boots, blow compressed air to dry out spark plug holes. they go straight down from fue rail. Good luck with the passenger side by fire wall. its a tuffy

Ihave the same problem but my battery light is on ,only at higher rpm any reason why??

Leave it to dry, check HT leads and check to see if any water has made the plugs damp.

If need take out plugs and dry.

Check your fuses in the engine bay as you may have shorted them out when you washed the engine.

2002 grand prix runs rough,dies service engine

sounds like you have a vacuum leak, check all the vacuum hoses and replace any broken or kinked ones, also check around the intake manifold gasket for leaks. any air leaks after the air flow meter creates 'un-metered' air which inturn will make the car run rough and stall, hope this helps

Check engine is on, The vehicle runs very rough.

When mine did this it was always a bad cylinoid.

generally, when the engine is washed, water gets trapped behind the spark unit and stays there, creating a shorting path for spark plug current. best to dis-mount the spark unit (follow plug wires back to source) and dry and clean it thoroughly.
