Question about 1997 Nissan Pathfinder

1997 nissan Pathfinder once warm rpms drop when

1997 nissan Pathfinder.Last week rpms seemed to drop to below 1000. I drive the vehicle two time per day..about 14 miles each time..the morning-7 miles turn around come back 7 miles. Same in the evening only the evenings here are about 90+ degrees lately-plus traffic.

Each evening trip on the way back after the vehicle reaches a certain temp..it feels like it wants to stall when I slow to a stop. Plus there is a strange sweet burn type smell hard to describe(unless you've smelt a real bad whino)..plus a slight tug..it gets worse until I make it home ..feels kind of like it's choking. When I put it in park..it's seems to be running fine.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

The sweet smell is your engine coolant, check for a leak under the hood, look for green fluid,Have your catalyst checked, for the other problems, and your fuel presure checked,or change the fuel filter.Either of these should help a little.

HOW DO YOU DISENGAGE 4WD 1997 PATHFINDER

Hi Diamond, These vehicles do sometimes have a problem in disengaging the 4 X 4. Start up and drive it backwards and forwards slowly (3 or 4 miles per hour will do). Gently put pressure on the lever in the direction of the 2 high and after some time it will change. (If nothing has been damaged inside the box, which is unlikely) Regards John

97 pathfinder rough idle, stalls at idle, no codes

It could be that your EGR valve is going bad. Cleaning the TBI could have helped by unclogging some carbon, allowing it to run better for a bit, but does not fix the problem.

Take to a nissan tech this sounds like a bad tps sensor throttle position sensor or a cruise control issue . Your problem is likely to serious to deal without a code reader an having the vehicle in front me. Think of safety first here or a accident.

If your burning any kind of water then thats your probem.you put water with fire or electric what do you get. also if your smelling gas that can be the map sensor.it mesures the mixture and air.it also compensates the mixture when the motor is running like **** because of water in the cylinders or intake manifold. head gasked yes or intake gasket.
