Question about 1998 Volkswagen Jetta

1 Answer

My 1998 Volkswagen Jetta's alarm goes off randomly; actually it's not really the alarm but a quiet beeping of the horn and the parking lights flashing. All it takes for the alarm to be turned off is one of the doors to be opened. It does this a few times a day/night. Also, the doors will no longer lock using the interior locking button or using the fob. There is no way to lock the driver door. Can you help me?

Check a reputable alarm installer sound like your factory lock module is giving trouble

If your door lock button on the dash doesn't work, you may have a problem with the remote door lock power module hidden inside soundproof foam behind the left side panel in the trunk. You should hear it work for a second or so whenever you press the lock button on the dash or the remote fob. Could be a bad dash switch, defective power module, blown fuse, or a loose connection.

1998 cadillac horn goes off randomly

Sounds like a bad horn button which is actually part of the airbag. Replace your airbag. They're cheap on e-bay and it's not hard to do. Just make sure you disconnect the battery before doing any airbag work.

Disconnecting the car battery will reset the alarm system. When you first connect the car battery, the alarm will sound briefly, then stop. You will have to retrain the alarm system to recognize your remotes. The procedure for that varies from one year model to the other. On my 1998 you do it by putting the key in the door lock and holding it full counterclockwise until you hear a brief beep from the alarm horn. Then press a button on your remote and the system will learn to recognize that remote.

Did you have an accident with this vehicle shortly before this happened ?
I have had this problem after my car was repaired by a body shop. One door latch was replaced by the VW dealer which solved the alarm problem but the battery still drained. Now they are saying it is the comfort control module.

The horn for the alarm is located beside the wiper motor assembly. You'll need to remove the wiper arm assy so you can remove the cowl panel and access the electric horn.

Jetta beeps 3 times while ESP light is on

Probably one of the ESP sensors have faulty connection. These sensors measure the speed of the wheels ,if they are not connected then ESP cannot work. For safety reasons the system will not start up and gives you this error message.

Jetta no longer makes beeping sound when locked.

try honking the horn normally with horn button <key must be on> if horn works it is in the programing for comfort and convieniance system if no honk it's just the horn or wiring to horn.
