Question about 1996 Pontiac Grand Prix
Check the fan relay by following fan motor wires to relay and pull relay and check resistance whit a multi-tester or ohmmeter. Make sure it will get current. If the relay is good, the fan motor may be bad.
Also make sure you are using a 50/50 coolant mix. This is the exact mixture any car should have.
Also 5w30 oil in summer time or use sythetic which adjust to any temperature.
Can always replace your thermostat if you feel like it.

Check the connection betwteen the temp sensor, located on the block and check your fuses/relays. It may help if you pull and reseat each fuse. This is free and saves a lot of headache swapping out parts.

SOURCE: engine cooling fan not coming on
It may be the fan itself. Try to find the plug going to the fan, it should be close to the fan and might plug diresctly into the relay. Use two jumper wires straight from the Bat one from the pos+ side and one from the neg- side and plug them into the two holes in the connector the fan should start WATCH YOUR FINGERS. If it starts its elec prob before the fan if not its the fan.
