Question about 1997 Chevrolet Venture

2 Answers

My van acts like it wants to start but it won't.

The other day I was stopped on a hill for a while. while I was stopped, I had my foot on the brake. All of a sudden the van just cut off. I thought that maybe it was running hot. I had it parked over night then tried the next day to crank it. It would not crank. Someone said that the gas was not getting to the starter or something. I have heard a few things, but not sure what it could be. Could you please give me a idea what the problem might be?

Try a new fuel filter first, then try a new fuel pump. The fuel pump has to have the .right presure to keep the car running. If you havnt changed the fuel filter since the car was new, chances are it is filled with dirt from having too low of gas in your tank, dont let it get below a half if you can help it.

First, lets get our definitions straight. Crasnking is when the starter turns the engine when you turn the key. Starting is what happens that results in running. Therefore, an engine can be cranking but not starting but cannot start without cranking. Cranking is sometimes also called turning over.
Now...does the engine turn when you turn the key? If not, check the battery for 12 or better, and check that the terminals are clean on the contact surfaces that touch the battery.
If the engine turns, you need to check for spark at the plug wires, and see if fuel is going into the engine (listen to see if you can hear the pump in the tank running when you turn the key on first.) If in doubt about fuel, spray a little carb cleaner into the throttle body and if it briefly starts, then you aren't getting fuel.

Smart car kangaroos and stops when I am trying to get out of tight car park. I may be activating the hill assist brake by holding foot brake pedal?

Hello again,

Please note that the Smart car is equipped with an auto brake system where if you remove your foot off the brake pedal , it will not disengage till you press the gas pedal , other wise you might have a problem .
Please try with out having your foot over the brake pedal and get back to us.

Van acts like the fuel filter is plugged, and losses power when going up hills

Do you have a fuel pump? If its bad or weak, you aren't getting enough gas to your engine. Has anyone thought of the filter in your gas tank?

Will a worn out motor mount make the van idle rough or vibrate the car?

Have somebody stand in front of van with the hood open and watch the motor while you start the van.Put the emergency brake on and your foot on the brake, shift into D keeping your foot on the brake with your other foot give the engine a little gas and watch the motor. If a motor mount is broke the motor will lift up a little on the broken side.Be careful!

Van got hit on right side brakes were new after being hit van would not stop countinued to roll down hill until i turned van now van has no brake system now

Sounds like a broken brake line. Look for brake fluid around the area of the impact or check the master cylinder for fluid to confirm this.

I own a 2001 Dodge Grand Caravan..3 days ago it started acting up. I pulled out of a driveway and started somewhat slowly up a hill and the van shut off. I was able to start it, get it up the hill but when...

Hi tinkerbel925

Have you tried scanning it with a scan tool? If this much is going wrong there should be a check engine light on. This will tell you what is making your van do all that crazy stuff.

I HAVE A 2001 AZTEK AND WHEN ON AN UPHILL INCLINE STOPPED, YOU MUST KEEP FOOT ON BRAKE OR VEHICLE WILL ROLL BACKWARDS

This is normal, depending on the depth of the hill. This is frequent with standard/manual cars on uphills, they can roll back, but with automatic vehicles they usually have a small amount of throttle, (you'll notice this when putting your vehicle from park into drive with your foot off the break, it'll start slowly moving forward)
Now on the hill, if it's a steep incline your car will move backwards, it all depends on how high your throttle (the car itself) is, and the incline depth of the hill.

1999 Dodge Ram van 1500 no pick up power

I had a similiar problem on my 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 Conversion Van. It ended up being a partial collapse of the catalytic converter which didn't allow adequate exhaust. The problem only showed itself because I could not get over 55 mph going up a small hill.
