Question about 1993 Saturn SL2

1 Answer

I hear a whirring noise from the driver side and rear doors

My 94 Saturn SL@ makes a whirring sound (line a motor powering down) when I open/close my driverside front and rear door. It seems to be getting worse so it begins to whir when I start the car up and intermittently during the drive...Does anyone know what could contribute to this?

Font seat belts

The 91-94 had a motor in the door running a long screw drive. The seat belt anchor moved along this screw drive, when you opened or shut the door the seat belt anchor moved from the rear upper corner of the door to the front of the door allowing you to get out without unfastening it.

The screw and the motor are both subject to failure from age and use like all mechanical and organic things. If you go to you can buy a new replacement, I think they cost more than the current value of the car. If you get one out of a junkyard, most likely it has outlived its service life as well.

If your car has low mileage and was always kept indoors, possibly the mechanism is still good and you can check the fuses under the hood and just to the left of the passenger's knee under the velcro door and replace the fuse. I think you will find however that the fuse will just blow again under the strain.

I cant get the electric window to close on my 94 Grand Cherokee

you can take the door pannel off and put power to the window motor to get it to roll up. but it sounds like you have a bad master switch( this is the whole switch pannel with all the buttons on it located on the drivers door) go to .com to find a local junk yard that will have this part

Power issues... Total power loss only when turning key to "on".

Sounds like poor battery circuit connection breaking down under load. Make sure battery is charged and battery connections are clean and tight. Otherwise, the circuits will have to be traced further back.

2000 saturn power windows, driver window does not

you would first have to make sure it is switch.Motors and regulators go out often. Does the drivers door switch operate passenger side ok? Can you hear any noise when switch is is up or down position? You would want to make sure all of this first. Door panel controls are easy to replace but you really want to remove panel and make sure you have good motor and window regulator.

The power window on the passenger side went down, with a lot of noise. But now it won't go back up. I hear the motor making all kinds of slipping and grinding like sounds.

The wiz is abslutely correct. When you have it repaired just make sure that the mechanic who works on it verifies that the window is still firmly secured in the rail.

1999 Saturn SL2 drivers side window doesn't go down all the way then makes a grinding noise, when put up makes a grinding noise

It sounds like there is somthing wrong with the window regulatior ( the motor in the door that moves the window)
1.Remove the inner door pannel (all parts)
2. hook up the window controls & try moving window up or down, make sure window is moving propley in tracks and siscor arms are not bound up.
3.If all is well with the above stuff, just replace the window regulatior and test befor you reasembil the door pannel

94 Grand Am Power Lock - front drivers side door (Trying again)

First, I'd recommend buying (or borrowing from the library) a Chilton or Haynes Manual to help finding the parts and how to access them. They'll save you a lot of time and headaches.

Then I'd try replacing the door lock motor. The motor itself should be just behind the inside door panel. Many times these motors, after years of wear and tear, break the teeth off the internal gears, causing a loud grinding/whirring noise but not allowing the doors to fully lock or even lock at all.

You can either buy a new motor from an auto parts store, but I've found that by checking with the local junk yard turns up some really good deals. Try to find a car that is the same make and model but maybe a newer year, bring the old motor with you, and make sure they look exactly the same down to the mounting holes.

I hope I could help you fix this issue. Good luck and don't forget to rate! Thank you!
