A MERE $1800 DOLLARS!! So, what is the problem? lol!

Feel mechanical?
How about you diagnose the fans yourself?
See if it's the fan temperature SWITCH, or the fan RELAY.

Or if you feel confident about their diagnoses, how about replacing these parts yourself?
http://www.bargainautoparts.com/products/2006_PONTIAC__TRUCK_TORRENT_V6-201____3.4L__OHV_Radiator__Fan__Motor.htm

I know it states Pontaic Torrent 2006 (Truck), but these AC Delco parts are used on many GM models.

You need Shroud - 19130231, Left Fan Motor- 15-80659, and Right Fan Motor - 15-80660.

Looking at the LIST price for these parts, and adding the labor, (Man/Hours. Probably $70 to $90 an hour at the dealership), I could see how they would arrive at that estimate. (Oh, yeah! This is an ->ESTIMATE from that dealer!)

Perhaps you'd like to buy the parts yourself, and install them yourself. This is just one online search I did. I know nothing about this company. Perhaps do your own research, and see what prices are available.

Well it's like this sir, sometimes it happens but before you blame the auto industry most Americans don't take care of their cars till they blow up then get upset cause they did not check the water level or watch the temp gauge or take it in for maintained when do. If it was an airplane and Americans treated them the same way there would not be a problem with population growth right now or global warming (Joke) (Sic) Try going to a radiator shop that does them you can get them replaced for a lower priced. But since they have to meet cafe standards they make everything out of plastic so it's a throw away instead of a good sold copper one. And when was the last time you changed your antifreeze? It is needed every two years or it kills the water pump and the radiator, electrolysis and chemical change caused by different metals and plastics will produce caustic solutions for any car. You could go to http://www.jcwhitney.com and order them on line, but here is the deal the dealer in order to protect itself from law suits will have to replace all radiator hoses heater hoses radiator cap and antifreeze plus the thermostat and gasket, not to mention the heat sensors they do this to keep from being sued, so that’s an added $300.00 in parts by itself. And if they replace the water pump, which I would so I am not rebuilding the engine for free, I would replace the water pump and pump belt so add another $150.00 to the price. Not trying to be nasty just telling you what we mechanics have to do in order to eat and not work for free. Id we do not replace one of those items and your engine blows you would be back at my shop demanding an engine overhaul for $2000.00 plus the other $1800.00 to do the job the second time. Because of the lawsuit happy people out there we have to do everything we can to protect our family, and ourselves wouldn’t you? And you have the Government to thank for the car companies being screwed up, every year they change the target for the manufactures to hit including mileage and safety there are no more 1957 Chevy cars that last 40 years the government won’t allow that.

Why is my car over heating ?

you may have a bad fan motor that needs replacing. if you unplug the cooling fan and direct feed the motor with jumper wires and it doesn`t run then the fan motor needs replacing. this is what it sounds like as it should run when the motor gets to a certain temp or the a/c is turned on.

It appears that you have a viscous fan hub driving the fan or should I say failing to drive the fan. The fix is to replace it . If you have electric fans then there is a problem in the temp sensor system and the fans are not cutting in on temperature The problem you state is indicated by the fact that when driving there is sufficient air through the radiator to remove the heat from the radiator ..but when driving slow there is no air flow because the fan is not drawing air through the radiator and the temperature climbs until over heat is reached . Typical indicators of fan speed problem is overheating at stop sign/lights, slow heavy traffic driving, slow up hill driving, and rapid cool down as road speed is increased , the faster the speed the cooler the motor

The fan (blower ) for heat and air con wont go on my 2003BA Falcon,

Hi there,

As your HVAC system is monitored by the computer, a faulty fan will register the appropriate fault codes. The code/s will identify the cause of the problem.

Have your codes read by your local Ford dealership (do not take to any other garage). Reading codes at a dealership takes less than 10mins, so the dealership shouldn't charge much for this exercise.

Preferably have the dealership show you the codes during the test, to confirm it is what they say.

I believe there is no way to circumvent the computer to operate the blower, as the blower is also reliant on other HVAC circuits and sensors.

Heating problem on engine..

hello there:
if the motor was hot when you cleaned it you may have cracked the head but first thing you should check would be the fan to see if it might be a relay to the fan or if it could be a faulty switch try turning the a/c on and see if the fan come on if it boes it will more than likely be a switch or the fan relay...hope this helps you out please leave a review thanks....sincerely D.Jones

Left side driver heating not working

Its possible you have an air mix control motor malfunction or a mode control motor malfunction. To retrieve your trouble codes from the heater control panel do the following. 1. turn the ignition switch on. 2. Turn the fan switch off. 3. Press the recirc control button to select fresh, then continue to hold the button until the recirc indicator comes on for 2 seconds and then goes off. If the system is okay, the recirc indicator will stay off. If there is a problem, the recirc indicator will blink a trouble code. The codes are one blink=air mix motor/circuit problem. 2 blinks=mode control motor/circuit problem. 3 blinks=evaporator temp sensor circuit problem. Mice can and do get into cars and make nests in the air conditioning systems and cause blockages so the dealer was not making up a fairy tale. That is also a possibility but you would probably smell some bad odors if that were the case.

I believe my heating/ac motor resistor is bad - fan doesn't work on high

Look behind the glove compartment door. Press the tabs holding it inward to let it drop out of the way.
I'm getting suspicious that the resitor block isn't to blame for these problems. May be the switch. The resistor block looks to be bullet-proof but it is a hard to test assembly.
