Hi Cathy, I would like to assist you with your car problem; may I have more info please? Include year, make, and model of the car you are having problems with. Specify the driving circumstances when the dash light went on (e.g. check engine, MIL, etc)
Did you lose speed? Is your speed limited to 20 m.p.h.?
Were you able to pull any diagnostic trouble codes using an OBD-II scanner tool?
Depending on the circumstances and the pulled DTCs, it could be as simple as: a problem with the battery dying; or a poor connection due to corrosion or moisture damage; loose battery connections , or some other power system failure with a wiring harness, headlights, or wipers.
More serious problems may be the cause too; such as

  • Defective throttle position (TP) sensor
  • Defective oxygen sensor
  • Defective accelerator pedal position (APP) sensor
  • Loose or damaged wiring
  • Defective throttle body
  • Defective powertrain control module (PCM)
  • Any fault/error that will affect drivability function
  • Any fault/error that will affect vehicle performance
  • A fault/error in the emissions system
  • A fault/error in the throttle control system
  • A fault/error in the transmission system
In these cases, the reduced engine power warning light is considered extremely serious because of the immediate and severe drive-ability problems that will be present until the engine or transmission fault/error is repaired. More damage could be incurred if you continue to drive the affected car without making the proper and necessary repairs...and in the long run, cost you more money.
If you don't have an OBD-II reader, does a neighbor have one you can borrow? If not, you can rent one out from your local auto parts store; I would not recommend driving the car to the auto parts store, however, if you are desperate and need to drive the car to the parts store, a counter- person will be more than happy to assist you and pull the codes free of charge. Let me know if I could be of further assistance.

2001 yukon xl reduced engine power mode

If a "Reduced Engine Power" warning message pops up on your dash, it means that the powertrain control module has detected a system failure and it has intentionally limited your vehicle's performance. The Engine Reduced Power Mode is a fail-safe mode that can prevent your vehicle from accelerating

What does engine power reduced mean

It mean the electronics in the vehicle has put a limit on how much of the power the engine has. 'Reduced Engine Power' means you are only getting some of the power the engine has. Do you have any warning lights on your dashboard?
This usually happens because the vehicle has found a fault in the system it thinks is serious, reducing the power to prevent damage. Take the vehicle to a Good mechanic and they will be able to tell you why it is happening.

What does the message "engine power reduced" mean on a 2011 GMC Terrain?

It means the PCM has seen a problem with your engine running and has reduced the power for your safety. You need to bring your vehicle in to someone with a scan tool to read your trouble codes so they can look in the right direction to repair the non-performing part.

I suggest you tell us what this mystery vehicle is so we can try to help. But from what you described i would start by checking fuel pressure at the fuel rail. And changing the fuel filter.

What does "Reduced Power, Traction Fault" mean?

GM's power strategy will reduce power if it doesn't see proper charging. It does this to conserve battery power by shutting off non-essential electrical accessories. It can also mean that the traction control system is reducing engine power to avoid a skid. The traction control system gets input data from the wheel speed sensors to figure out if you're entering a skid or the wheels are locking up. One way to get you out of the skid is to reduce engine power or pump your ABS brakes. In your case you should get the trouble codes read. An ABS or traction code code could be a C, U or B code which can't be seen by a cheap scan tool or the tools they use at auto parts stores. GM had major problems with the ABS wheel speed sensors built into the wheel bearing hubs in these vehicles. The fix involved replacing the hub. So get the codes read by a pro scanner to find out which wheel sensor is setting the code. Then do the fix. Also, the P0128 is usually caused by a bad thermostat. Fix that first, because if the engine doesn't get up to operating temperature, the computer can limit some features.
