Why was the head gasket replaced?,whitch motor do you have, most likely answer is that the timing got messed up during the repair,,pretty sure that you have an interference engine, whitch means if the timing is off or the belt breaks when you try to start it the pistons hit the valves and bend them,if you have the dohc 3.0L. this will happen, check the timing marks and hydraulic belt tensioner, for proper range of tension,if it looks ok do a compression test to make sure you dont have valve damage,if that all checks out, check fuel pump pressure at the rail, and if your getting spark

I recently changed the head gasket after overheating. The car is not starting and emitting heavy smoke

How hot did the car get before you had to change the head gasket? If the car had extreme heat then it could have damaged the rings. The rings will collapse and allow oil to squeeze past and burn out of the exhaust causing the smoke. Also since the rings are collapsed the vehicle will have no compression hence the no start. First thing is do a compression check.

Blew head gasket and would not start, changed gasket and still wont start

Make the timing belt is installed properly, otherwise all the intake valves will be bent because it is a high interference combustion chamber. Check compression after properly timed. If you are off any teeth at all the head will need to come back off to get repaired.

Car wont start

Head Gasket has nothing to do with changing the oil

If you have a bad head gasket the motor would over heat
& you would be using coolant

Best to go to a local shop & have a talk there
& get your questions answered

No start , replaced head gasket now won't start not firing

Hello Torrey,

Your two problems are not related. Not firing has nothing to do with replacing a head gasket, but to do with the ignition system. You must have unplugged or disconnected something in your ignition system in the process of changing your head gasket ?? Look for that.... Hope this helps.

My 1998 toyota camry 4 cylender car over heated top hose busted gasket on thermostate leaking car stop, so change out hose put new gasket ,added radiator fluid check for any leaks nothing so started car...

hi, it sounds like the head gasket has gone take out the spark plugs and check for signs of water also check the oil for signs of water as this to me looks and sounds like the head gasket has failed and will need replacing.

If water is not present then try starting the car with the coolant filler cap off and see if it starts if it does then this is head gasket failure if it still dont start then your going to need to get a compression test done and then this will tell you if the gasket is good or bad but to me it sounds like head gasket failure.

If the gasket needs replacing then you need to also check the water pump is working and also test the thermostat as any of these failing can cause the head gasket to blow again so make sure you get these checked ok.

Let me know how you get on or if you need further assistance ok

After changing a head gasket, car won't start. it

Sounds like the timing is off. Re-check your timing marks. If it has a timing belt it may be a few teeth of and getting no compression. Why did you need to replace the head gasket? If you overheated the motor it may have cracked the head causing a weird noise, but I would start with the timing first. That is the cheapest test.
