99 Mercury Cougar, check engine light came on, but the scanners at Autozone won't show anything, there's no issues with driving nor unusual noises. Already checked the fuses, they seem fine. Help?

The scanner at autozone r basic and cheap ones. It might not have the ability to read the computer codes. A fuse or relay will not set a code. If vehicle is running good probably just a sensor but you will need to get it fixed in order to pass inspection. Take it to a Ford dealer and have it scanned or get someone that has a better scanner

99 Mercury Cougar cat glowing red. Replaced thinking it was plugged and still glowing cherry red with exhaust unhooked.

Im guessing the ck engine light is on? Something is dumping gas and heating up cat, you need to check have scanner hooked up and engine data looked at...look at long and short fuel trim, tis will tell you what's going on or at least give you a direction to go.I wouldn't drive it, gonna ruin new cat

I have a 2002 cougar that i just got at an auction and the check engine light has been on and recently started flashing the other day.. I maybe think the engine is running a little hot but the hot censor...

If the check engine light is flashing, that's not good. It's probably an emissions issue. I had a Chevy Blazer do that once and I put some different gas in it and it was fine. If the light just stays on, it could be something as simple as watery gas. Take it to a shop, or Advance/O'Reilly's/Autozone/NAPA/PepBoys and have them use a diagnostic tool to read the trouble codes. That should tell you why the light is on/flashing and what you'll need to do to fix it. Try not to drive it too much with the light flashing.

I have a 2000 Mercury Cougar and the battery light is on and I hear a chattering noise on the passenger side of the engine is this problem the alternator?

Just repaired one of these same issue. The one that was repaired locked the ac compressor up and burned the drive belt causing the alt to no longer charge. Would check the ac compressor first for the noise. If belt is still on and vehicle still runs may have have an alternator issue.

I have a 1999 cougar and the charging systems power fluxuates causing the lights and motar to pulse

Same thing with my sister's 99 cougar. Her alternator is brand new and when it was replaced he had a hard time with the alternator cable so I'm thinking it is a loose wire to the alternator causing this to happen. It's either that or the brand new re-furb AutoZone junk alternator which I have had issues with in the past on another car. Check your main alternator wire and also check your battery posts for corrosion.

99 Mercury Cougar has reverse but no forward gears

check the oil lever in the transmisson assuming it's automatic, if the fluid level is fine then with it in gear running and the brake on look to see if the drive shaft is turning, if it is then you have a prboblem with the drive shavft depending on engine size and wheather it's front or rear wheel drive. if it's not turning then you have a transmisson problem. If this is helpful please rate.

Rotten egg smell??? Thats smell could be either from a bad 02 senser or a totally clogged catalytic converter...not terribly expensive to replace. As far as the engine shaking, and it not going quick out of the stop light, I'd pull my tranny dipstick and smell the fluid and check for a buring smell and or the color. You want it to be a light red color. You may have an internal transmission issue. You said you got "fluild" out of your tailpipe, was it just water, or was did it have a scent to it. You really should have the car checked out, with those symptoms that you listed you could do more damage by still driving it that way.
