If you don't hear a buzzing sound coming from the gas tank when you turn on the ignition, the pump is shot even tho there is voltage going to it.

I have an 2004 chevy impala that has gas a new starter, new switch ignition, and new fuel pump installed. Why is my car still not starting when I go to crank it up?

Sixty years ago my daddy told me an engine needs four things to run:
  1. Fuel
  2. Air
  3. Compression
  4. Ignition
Air is generally a given, and you can hear compression--the sound the car makes while cranking, the rhythmic sound.

Fuel: Crank it for a bit and then remove a spark plug. If it's not wet, there's no fuel. Possible clogged fuel filter, blown fuel pump fuse, or fuel pump is disabled because automotive security thinks you're using a fake key. You can also test for no fuel by getting an aerosol can of carburetor/throttle body cleaner and spraying it in the inlet while someone else cranks the engine. If it runs as long as you are spraying, there's no fuel.

Ignition: Take off one spark plug wire at the plug. Insert a plastic-handled screwdriver into the wire-end. Hold the handle so the screwdriver shaft is within 1/4" of any engine part. While someone cranks the engine, you should see a blue spark jump from the screwdriver shaft to the engine if there's ignition.

2001 jeep grand Cherokee 4wd won't start after replacing fuel filter

If it ran prior to the filter replacement, it will most likely be a filter issue. Installed backwards? You have to allow fuel pressure to build back up and fill the new filter before it will start. You can try cranking the engine while applying the gas pedal slightly to see if it will start

Engine quits running like it runs out of gas?

Many small things can cause this...dirty fuel, water in tank, fuel pressure regulator going bad, air filter clogged, throttle body dirty, clogged catalytic converter. First try fuel injector gas tank and line cleaner...least costly...use 2 bottles of STP concentrated injector cleaner...also add a bottle of liquid heet...to absorb any excess water or sludge in tank...worst cause could be low fuel pressure caused by bad fuel pump...Hope this helps.

Installed new fuel pump because car had old gas in tank. removed tank and completly drained it. replaced tank and installed new fuel pump and fuel filter. put about 6 gallons of gas in car. have tried to...

Okay, you need to make sure the fuel pump is getting power and that you have the lines hooked up correctly. Also, when you replace fuel pumps you need to remove the air cleaner and use starter fluid to get the engine started.

2002 Yukon, it feels like I'm not getting enough gas

Possibly the fuel pump itself. Check, with a rented gauge kit, the fuel pressure at the test fitting (looks like a tire valve) on the fuel rail over the injectors. You should read something like 45 PSI with engine running--any reading considerably lower indicates pump is near end of life.

Cannot get 1987 chevy van 20 to keep running... stalls out

Best do a fuel pressure test. Should have chg. fuel filter from the get go. The only other filter is on the end of the fuel pump in tank. Bad gas and dirty gas will plug up fuel filter, hense burn pump up.

1999 Ford Taurus mechanical problem

Hello,
your problem appears to be the idle control motor located on the air intake manifold it is a small motor that goes bad quite often. Other items that can cause this is a bad /clogged air filter or a tune up (spark plugs and wires), or clogged fuel injectors. to clean the injectors you can buy a container of fuel system cleaner and pour it into the gas tank and as you drive it cleans the system.

Once the fuel system is cleaned via a tankful of cleaner & gas then the idle controller motor would be next on the list to be replaced.

Good Luck !

Won't start

your fuel pump is in the fuel tank. and your fuel in the tank is what cools you pump . i have seen alot of fuel pump failure when people run very low on fuel.
when you turn on your keyswitch you should hear a hum of the pump . before replacement you should always check voltage to the pump. to make sure.

Discovery land rover will not fire.

try taking the air cleaner assembly off you might not be getting enough air to engine
if this is the case then the throttle body needs to be maintenanced

heres another suggestion it just hasnt sucked gas to the engine to crank over sometimes they help

go out buy an electric fuel pump
find the fuel inlet source to engine hook up electric fuel pump
attach only ground to something in engine compartment
then get a can so that when gas comes out it has something to go into
tap the electric fuel pump power lead to the positive of battery let run till gas comes out make sure not to spark your working with gas
once gas becomes present detach electric fuel pump all the way set aside
hook gas line back to port and then start vehicle this should start

also with fuel filters there are 3 on a vehicle
one in engine compartment
one on chassis back by the tank
and one in the tank called the sending unit this has a filter in the tank this one could be clogged
make sure these filters are in the right position with gas flow flowing in right direction
