It is not a good idea to run it at all with too much fluid.. Very likely to blow eals and gaskits..
Drop the pan and re-fill..

How to change filter and what to check when transmission is slipping after being overfilled

Most all transmissions have a overflow line so it will get rid of over filling fluid. When a car or truck has a lot of miles on the transmission and you change the filter it will slip because the new fluid has a cleaner in it and the clutch's will not catch. Good Luck Mike L.

Bought a 2002 Jeep liberty limited had small hole in transmission pan shifted fine changed pan and ten quarts of fluid now shifts 1-2 fine 3and over like neutral

Trans fluid is measured by pints ! So if 2 pints are equal to quart , you only need 5 quarts if it has 3.7 6 cylinder . And 3 quarts for the 2.4 4cylinder ! You may have added 5 quarts too many .

I have a 1998 626 Mazda transmission fluid overfilled

It could, because as the fluid get warm it expands. As it expands it might not flow thru the system as it was designed too. You might check your motor mounts also. I had a mini van that i thought the transmission was shot. It would **** and bounce. After getting under it I found 2 of its motor mounts were broke. When I fixed the mounts the jerking and bouncing went away.

How to change transmission filter and fluid?

You must raise the car up and support it on jack stands, then go under and remove the sheet metal pan from the bottom of the transmission, there is no drain plug so have a large catch basin, it is VERY MESSY! drain the fluid and the filter is up inside the transmission, you will see it attached to the part called the valve body. Clean off all the old gasket (very important) and using a new pan gasket from the filter kit carefully hand tighten all the pan bolts and then in a "X" pattern working around the pan tighten the bolts to 14 foot pounds of torque, this is very important as overtightened bolts will cause a nasty leak and warp the pans gasket surface. Add around 3 quarts quarts of DEXRON VI ATF and run the engine until the transmission fluid is hot to the touch, then top off to safe mark, DO NOT OVERFILL, A LITTLE LOW IS OK BUT NOT OVERFILLED!

How do you add transmission fluid to the torque converter on a 98 chrysler concorde?

The nine quarts is the total capacity of the transmission. The only time you would use all nine quarts is if you where flushing the transmission. You will need to drop the pan and start over as your transmission is now severly overfilled. I left the details of how to do this in your previous question. Let me know if you have any questions and I'll do my best to answer them. Thank you for using FixYa.com!

I overfilled my transmission fluid on my 96 taurus gl, now it won't shift into gear. Did i blow the trasmission?

It is probable that you blew out the seals and will need your transmission repaired. You can try to slip a small hose down the dip stick tube and draw out the extra fluid, there is a slight chance that your transmission will work if you get the fluid level back down where it should be.

Chevy astro is spitting out transmission dipstick and fluid

U may have overfilled the trans, was the fluid hot (at least 180 degrees Farhrenheit) before you topped it off, if not u could have added over one quart to much fluid.
