NO REVERSE 2000 SATURN SL1OTHER GEARS FINE

IT IS SHOOTING ERROR CODE SOLUTION OF EITHER A SOLENOID, ELECTRICAL CONNECTION OR FAILING TRANS. FLUID LEVEL FINE, LOOKS & SMELLS GOOD. MY GUESS I HAVE TO GO WITH THE SOLENOID REPLACEMENT. WHO KNOWS!
OTHER ISSUES...
IF YOU HEAR A THUMP IN THE BACK GOING IN REVERSE, CHECK YOUR WELDING OF THE EXHAUST HANGER.
IF YOU RPM SHOOTS UP WHEN IN PARK, CHECK YOUR AIR IDLE SENSOR, WHICH WILL EVENTUALLY CAUSE AN OXYGEN SENSOR CODE TO COME UP.

With the code, I'd lean to the solenoid, but there is a large nut inside the transmission that loosens on these and when it does, you'll lose reverse.

Thanks for the vote, but it was late and I didn't realize I didn't really tell you much about your problem.
The nut is located behind the cover on the driver's side of the transmission. Pull the wheel and inner fender, then the trans cover and you'll know it when you see it. A Really Big nut

Transmission slips in first gear and reverse but shifts fine after going

Is your O/D light blinking to notify a trouble code? If so, it could be a failed shift solenoid.

If not, the first place to look would be low trans fluid level.

I have a 2000 Saturn LS2 with a tranny problem. When first started, it will engage into Reverse, after it is warm, it is very slow to engage if it engages at all, sometimes minutes and still no engage. The...

Barry-this is a known issue with Saturn transmissions, and it is the valve body-there is a little cottage industry for rebuilders (they run around $200) and are fairly easy to replace without removing the trans. Before you go into that, though, check the harness connector on top of the trans, this is also known as a weak point on Sattys-Trans services on these cars is very easy, it has a drain bolt like an engine and a spin-on filter too, and the trans should be serviced every 30,000 miles, use Dextron-Mercon. I had this problem with mine 99 SL2, and have been changing the trans fluid often (3x in the last 6000 miles) and it has fixed mine of the ,delayed reverse'. A side affect of this problem is the 'slam' you get going into reverse, or even forward gears, and that ends up needing to have the input shaft bolt replaced. $2700 for a trans is a joke, you could solve this for MUCH less, a number of different ways.

1992 Plymouth Colt Vista AWD Automatic Transmission has only 2nd gear no mater which forward gear selection you make. Reverse is fine. New fluid and filter, no change. The old fluid was not burned or...

make sure all the electrical connectors to the trans are properly connected. One of these plugs is for the shift control solenoids- not properly connected = no shifting. This happened during the repair operation which is why the car worked fine before the water pump was replaced.

My 2000 Saturn sl1 recently showed codes po733 and po734.What exactly does this imply and where would I start if I wanted to try fixing the problem myself?

po733- gear 3 ratio incorrect, po734- gear 4 ratio incorrect. this is how to fix. You can try replacing the shift solenoids inside the transmission as long as the trans fluid is nice and clean looking. If the trans fluid is dark or burnt looking, it time for a new tranny if you need further assistance please let me know and i will be glad to assist you. Thanks, Midwest-Tek

Transmission won`t go into reverse

Does the Check Engine light come ON when this happens? Whenever the "Check Engine" light comes on, there is always a DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) stored in the ECM (Engine Control Module). You'll need an OBDII (On-Board-Diagnostics) scanner to retrieve any codes recorded/set in ECM. Once you do this and let us know what, if any codes are set, then we can go from there. The problem you describe could simply be a wiring/connection problem -- no telling at this point. Now, having written that, my suspicion is the LR (Low/Reverse) clutch or the solenoid (hopfully, just the solenoid).

My 2000 dodge neon will go in park reverse but wont go into drive

If the fluid in the trans is up to the proper level the trans has failed, have a trouble code test run to determine what has gone wrong, it could be a solenoid in the trans pan or a failed forward clutch.
