The downstream O2 sensor reading should be fairly steady. Typically the P0420 code triggers the Check Engine Light if the readings of the two sensors are similar.

Had the same problem on our 2012 Equinox today. Threw codes P026B and P062F. Appears to be a bad battery. Replaced battery and all seems ok now...keeping fingers crossed. My suspicion is that the faulty, dying battery caused a low voltage situation in the injector control module and thus those errors. Will see if the check engine light returns in the next 48 hours.
I have had very good luck with just bypassing the whole entire system. These things are KNOWN to fail and can cost a fortune to fix. Ive been dealing with these antitheft systems for years, and bypassing is the only way ive found that will fix this problem forever and not cost you an arm and a leg. I currently have P0742 and P0700 problem on my 2005 Chevy Equinox. My car engine flares often and sometimes the gears don't shift. Do you have any tips on how you fixed these problems?
When both of these lights are on you should suspect a wheel sensor. Check the sensor at each wheel (look for small 2-wire plug). Make sure each one is securely plugged in and no wires are broken or bare. Also make sure no sensor has been damaged. Dealt with same issue with one yesterday and it had a sensor left unplugged after wheel service.
code 420 is catalytic converter is not efficient and should be replaced i am sorry no fuse will fix this.get a new mechanic.this fairly common on these vehicles .
