Question about 1996 Honda Accord

1 Answer

The transmission on my 1996 Honda Accord just failed. If I get it rebuilt it will be the second rebuilt transmission for this Honda. Is it worth it? Or should I just give it away for scrap? It is white with a tan leather interior, a sunroof, a CD player and still looks so really great inside and out. I know nothing about cars and would appreciate the help. Thanks! Ms T Galloway

The interior is tan leather and in great shape. So is the outside of the car. A few small dents but the paint is shiny as new.

You have been so helpful. It'll cost me about 1,900 to get the transmission rebuilt but you've made me think it would be worth it!

    Thanks!

With the resale valve of the Honda Accord being so high if the cars overall condition is very good, no dents good seats and other interior parts then fix it.

D4 light on means transmission fault of some sort. Have the vehicle scanned as soon as possible, because it might be a minor glitch, and the transmission could be saved. Have in mind that these transmissions (1998-2002)are notoriously prone to fail around 60-80000 miles. If rebuilt with the remedial kit (i dont remember the proper name for this), the transmission tends to work normally.

the first common possibilty would be to check fluid level, if the fluid level is good, I would recommend changing the transaxle fluid and filter. if this does not correct the issue, a professional transmission repair person will need to diagnose for you, good luck!

New Transmission

Don't replace it... get it rebuilt for about $1400. You should receive at least a 12 month warranty with a rebuilt as well. Otherwise, new transmission plus labor - $2600

Honda accord automatic trans not responding. the fuel looks burnt

Sounds like the forward gears are fried. To confirm if you damaged the tranny, you'll have to drop the transmission pan and check for shrapnel. If the pan is loaded with metal fragments you're probably looking at a new or rebuilt transmission. One thing you can try is replacing the fluid and filter. It's a long shot but I've seen it fix the problem before and it's worth trying before investing in a new transmission.
