Sorry, if this is a silly question, but is a new Fuel Filter installed automatically/come with a new Fuel Pump? Or do you have to buy a new Fuel Filter and attach to the new Fuel Pump before installin

Has the filter ever been changed? Need to know year and model of the truck. Fuel filters can be near the tank or under the hood. Filters are usually separate from the fuel pump.

Where is the fuel sensor on a 1997 jeep grand cherokee

Have you checked the fuel filter? I would pull the fuel line apart before the filter to see if the pump is putting gas into the line. With key on, the pump should run for 2 seconds to pressurize the lines and fuel rail. And when the engine is cranking over, the pump should be running constant and putting gas into the line. If gas shoots out, possibly the filter is clogged or the fuel pressure regulator on the fuel rail is defective. If no gas comes out, possibly the pump filter sock is clogged or the pump is defective.
Very unusual for the pump to run and have NO fuel pressure.

I ran out of gas and put gas in out of a gas jug the car started but is running rough and is worse when i push on the gas petal

you need 4 or 5 gallons gas to be on safe side.could be too late damage fuel pump.never run vechicle low on fuel.fuel pump needs gasoline to keep it cool and lubricated.add more gas see if engine run better.if not i would change fuel filter all sediment was disturb when you add gas to empty tank when you poured gas in fuel tank sediment break up stop up fuel filter.change fuel filter see if car run better if not more like fuel pump over heat and damaged pump motor bearing.

Installed new fuel pump because car had old gas in tank. removed tank and completly drained it. replaced tank and installed new fuel pump and fuel filter. put about 6 gallons of gas in car. have tried to...

Okay, you need to make sure the fuel pump is getting power and that you have the lines hooked up correctly. Also, when you replace fuel pumps you need to remove the air cleaner and use starter fluid to get the engine started.

Car is not getting gas to motor even after new fuel filter is installed

If you change the fuel filter and still not getting fuel to the engine, then the other possible problems are:
- Clogged fuel lines due to 'dirty' fuel.
- Defective Fuel Pump which may not provide enough pressure to 'push' the fuel pass your new filter.

Hope it helps.

Ran out of gas. Put gas in it started right up then after a few minuts it shut off. Put gas in carb it runs till gas is used up. Where is fuel filter and is the fule pump in gas tank?

Fuel filter is located on the inside frame rail under the drivers door and the fuel filter is located in the gas tank. Start with the simple and change the fuel filter first, but it is common for the fuel pump to burn out when the gas tank has run out of fuel, but since your engine started back up. Good chance that your fuel pump may still be good and your fuel filter may have pick up dirty from the bottom of the gas tank which is causing your engine not to get any fuel.
Thank you for using fixya and good luck

Gas filter location on a 2005 chev. 2500hd pick up it is not along frame rail like on 98-2001 models

As of 2004, fuel filters are in the fuel tank as part of the fuel pump. They have a life expectancy of around 150,000 miles as to that is when the fuel pump starts to fail. You can get more life out of the fuel pump if you keep the gas tank over 1/4 at a time, the more the better since it's the gas that keeps the fuel pump cooled. The fuel pump has a double filter system, there is a filter screen on the pump unit housing about 3/4 up so all the larger dirty stays at the bottom of the gas tank, and then another finer screen on the pump pick up tube it self in the housing. With the double filter system, it has a much longer life and will out last the pump it self. Good luck and hope this helps and best thing you can do as mentioned is keep gas above 1/4 and add fuel injector cleaner once a month to your gs tank or every time your service the truck.
