When you place your vehicle in park, a metal bar slides into one of many large slots on an internal drum in the transmission. If the slots or bar are worn, or if the differential or universal joints are worn, that play has to be taken up before the vehicle will not roll further.

On some you can get to the linkage for that by removing the trans pan. Don't remember if yours is like that...either ask a trans shop or remove pan and look.
Don' t laugh...a long time ago I had a car that park was broken on and I had a parking brick (a brick with a rope tied to it that you put behind the wheel to keep it from rolling...To leave, you start the car, move forward and reel in the brick!) Obviously too "high-tech" to ever become a factory option!! Don't forget that you have an emergency brake too!!

02 4x4 olds bravada makes loud clanging noise when turning wheel

Have your CV boots and half shafts checked. If these are cracked, they will dry out and cause a lot of noise when turning. Also check your swaybar links, these cause a lot of noise also, but not only while turning.

How do i put my 4x4 on my 95 yukon......on park or neutral. and do i have to put my foot on the brake?

You can shift between 2Hi and 4Hi when the truck is moving. Just let off the gas and shift it. But in order to shift to Neutral or 4Lo you need to stop the truck and shift the transmission into neutral then shift the transfer case.

Tension in steering column, bad jerking when backing up, parking and turning slow.

if this is a 4x4 vehilce, make sure the switch to activate the 4x4 system is in 2WD. This sound like the 4WD has been engaged. Once the 4WD is engaged and you make turns on dry pavment this tension you're feeling will happen. This is a conflict inside the 4x4 system due to dry roads, the clutches in the rear differentail or transfer case are binding. The only time you engage the 4x4 is on wet/slipperly surface.

No reverse movement after valve body was removed and cleaned

Stupid question here, but did you put the valve body in backwards or upside down? Ensure all the connectors, lines are good....outside of that how about the gear selector? I have done alot of tranny work myself, but some of these things are common mishaps that I have done myself. Good luck to you and let us know what you come up with. Thanks for using Fixya!

Vehicle rolls with parking break engaged

Hi there!

This sounds serious - and could be expencive, so get the rear brakes checked over as soon as you can.

I think it is related to the handbrake adjuster failing, or the cables siezing in the outers.
This can be verified upon inspection.

There are cases where very hot brakes, have cooled, leading to failure when cooling. This is a manufacturing/ design defect.

Don't take chances with brakes.

If this info proves useful, please spare a moment to rate as Fixya! Thanks.
