Question about 1990 Nissan Maxima

2 Answers

I have a 1990 nissan maxima, and it won't start. I've had the battery, alternator, and starter checked and they are all ok. What would be another reason why the car won't start?

If there is no "clicking sound" you may want to check the starter relay if it is still working. You can have it tested if there is voltage running to its terminal. Also check the ground that connects the engine to the body of the car. You may have loose connections. If the starter motor turns you may want to check if there is fuel running to your engine. You may have a bad fuel pump or fuel filter.

No fuel or no fire, to test pull a spark plug wire and put a screwdriver in it then get it within 1/4 inch of a good ground and crank it over, if there is no spark you have found your problem, if there is spark then check for fuel. rent a pressure tester and test the fuel pressure, if there is no pressure you have a fuel pump problem.

1997 Nissan Maxima - won't start; engine doesn't turn over; I hear only a "click" sound; Checked the battery - It's good, took the starter up to Pep Boys and checked - it rocks, just...

This sounds SO-O-O-O familiar! There are all kinds of variables here.

First, why was the alternator replaced? Did anyone ever perform a charging sytem test on the vehicle before making this decision?

If the alternator was in fact bad, it is VERY COMMON for a shorted cell in a battery to be the CAUSE of the alternator going out. Has the battery been PROPERLY tested?

Then I have a serious problem with taking the starter off of the car to have it "checked". What is anybody going to do with the starter off of the vehicle? Put some battery power to it and see if it spins? Just because it spins on a "bench test" does NOT mean that it is good, or that it has enough power to actually turn an engine over.

You probably only have something really simple like a bad battery cable causing this whole thing!

Battery warning light on maxima

you need to get your battery fully charged, once you've done that , ask them to check it for a Load , clean all the terminals, and connection points,, start the car , and use a meter to check the battery while the car is running, you should get a reading of 13.5-14.5 volts, if you do your ok, if not, you have a bad alternator

96 Nissan Maxima. Has new starter. Wouldn't

Did you have the new starter tested befor you installed it? Was their a lot of corosion on the battery cables? The cables might be corroded as well cousing too much resistance for the starter to crank.

Check the battery cables for corrosion by peeling back the insulation a few inches. Probably all green or white dust. replace the cables
