Timing controls when spark happens does not make spark. make sure coil and all other ignition trigger devices are good (crank sensor, cam sensor, wiring and pcm) You can get info for tests from inexpensive manuals such as chiltons or haynes and using a digital volt/ohmeter.

Replaced head gasket now there's no spark,

Does anything work? It sounds like you have a flat battery which has gone flat due to the time it took you to change the head gasket.

No spark. No power to ignition system, disconnected wires to coils, disconnected or incorrectly seated spark plug leads, distributor cap off or not seated properly.

Motor not turning over. Flat battery, blown fuse, faulty start solenoid, faulty starter motor.

Hi I have a 1999 1.8 ford focus its misfiring on cylinders 1

Remove the top cover on the valve cover concealing the coils. Remove and inspect the spark plugs, and replace as necessary. Start the engine and see if the miss has been eliminated. If the miss is still there, a problem could also exist in the wires or coil or even the fuel injector, which will all need to be addressed as the diagnosis progresses. A fuel injector will cause the same type of a miss if it sticks.

  • 2 Mist the spark plug wires, and watch for evidence of arcing to the cylinder head cover. This will indicate a bad wire. If this is visible, then replace the spark plug wires.
  • 3 Turn the engine off, and loosen the wires at the coil by giving them a twist and pulling them out of the coil. Leave them on the coils--you just want to loosen them a bit to make the next step easier.
  • 4 Start the engine. Using a pair of pliers with insulated handles, pull one plug wire out of the coil at a time and watch for a noticeable drop in engine RPM. The cylinder that has no drop or noticeable decline in RPM is the one causing the miss. Also when the wire is removed, watch for a good spark at the coil to the wire when the wire is held close to the coil. This could indicate a bad coil if the plug wire checks out fine.
  • 5 Check the suspect wire with the Ohm meter, and test for continuity through the wire. If there is continuity, the miss is still present and there is no spark to the wire when it is removed from the coil, replace the coil.
  • 6 Check the fuel injectors. If the plugs and wires are good and there is a spark at the coil to wire test, then checking the injectors is the next step. If this is fine, then a compression test should be done to locate an internal engine problem. Start the engine, and remove the electrical connectors to the fuel injectors one at a time and listen for a significant engine RPM drop. If one cylinder is found to make no difference or very little in comparison to the others, replace the injector.

How to replace a sparkplugs for a mitsubishi montero xls 2002

      • 1 Cool the engine before attempting to remove any spark plugs.
      • 2 Remove the spark plug wires located across the top of the Eclipse model's engine. The spark plug wires connected to the spark plugs are the flat circular ends. Grab the wire around the circle and twist to unlock the wire. Lift up on the wire to remove it from the engine. Some models with ignition coils above the spark plug may require you to unhook the wire from the ignition coil to remove the wire.
      • 3 Drop the socket with the extension and socket wrench attached into the cylinder well and on top of the spark plug. Turn the socket wrench to unscrew and pull the spark plug out of the engine.
      • 4 Spray silicone spray into the cylinder well and onto the new spark plug threads.
      • 5 Insert the new spark plug into the socket with the threads sticking out. Slide the socket into the cylinder well and gently turn the wrench to the right to thread the spark plug into the cylinder head.
      • 6 Use the tension tool to test the tension or torque of the new spark plug. Set the tension to the specifications listed on the spark plug package.
      • 7 Reattach the spark plug wire to the new spark plug.
      • 8 Continue this process with the other spark plugs. Be sure to only complete one spark plug replacement at a time.

How do you replace an ignition coil on a 1996 ford escort

Depends on if it a 1.9 or a 1.8. The 1.9 is simple, follow the coil wire coming out of the distrubuter thats not going to a spark plug and remove the wire from the coil the electrical connerter that has two small wires and the bolts that hold the bracket to the cylinder head. on the work bench saparate the bracket from the coil and put it on the new coil then bolt it on the engine then plug in the wires and go. The 1.8 is the Mazda derived motor and the coil is inside the distrubuter heald on with 2 bolts and nuts and 2 bolted on wire connections. Be careful as the parts are expensive and seldom fail so the parts store may have to sell you the whole expensive distrubutor to get it going. Coils selodom fail. You did'nt ask what to do if you don't have spark. the coil is unlikly to be the cause on an engine that ran OK last time you drove it. Timing belt breaking and the cam and dist. not turning, are real common.
