Question about 2006 Honda Accord

1 Answer

Engine won't start. Dash lights flash rapidly when key turned.

Drove home from work like normal. Parked in garage. About an hour later went to start car. Wouldn't turn over, dash lights went dark. Turned ignition off and on, dash lights then flashed rapidly. Engine will not even turn over.
Tried disconnecting battery from car several times. Checked battery voltage (just hair under 12 volts, which is more than enough to start). Something is preventing the car from starting...and voltage seems to die off for car electronics with use (cannot turn headlights on, even with key). Strangely enough, battery has voltage.

You were right, it was reading mid 11's this morning. When I turned the ignition to on, it dropped to a little over 9 volts, when I turned over the ignition it would drop to 5 volts (and not start).

I jumped it with my wife's car and got the car running. At the battery it seemed to vary between 12.30 and 13.8 volts. It stayed mostly between 12.8 and 13.5 volts.

Do you think this is because the battery is dead...or maybe my alternator is bad? After idling the car for about 15 minutes I shut it off. The car would not start. Looks like the battery is not holding a charge. I will hitch a ride to work today with my wife (we work near each other) and pick up a battery this evening. I am thinking I will have the alternator looked at by a shop. Seems even while running, if I turn the lights on they were sort of flickering (while staying on though).

The battery says 12 volts but may be dropping to 4 or 5 under a load...i would suggest jumpstarting the car and see what happens.the battery should read in the high 12 volts and not less than 9.5 under cranking. the dash lights go out on your car when starting, and the alarm will go off ,and disable the ignition if the voltage is too low in cranking the car because the computer will shut it down and activate the anti theft.....check your battery posts are tight. best of luck

make sure your battery cables and battery post are clean no corrosion and no battery acid .and check all ground straps sometimes when backyard mechanics do repairs they sometimes leave some ground straps off thinking they are not needed and will cause all kinds of weird things to happen like you describe

2006 CTS: Wouldn't start (not dead battery) Burning rubber smell.

My first guess would be the fuel pump is going bad. Sometimes jarring it a bit will make it work again and the tow may have done it. If it does this again have someone bang on the bottom of the gas tank while cranking, if that cures it then you'll know for sure.

Key will not turn to start vehicle.

Try pushing in the key while turning the wheel either way. And jiggling it. This happens because the steering locks for the car's protection. If we park it with the wheels turned, it locks in that position. If that does not work, you may have to call a good mechanic to help you.

1996 Subaru Legacy No Power At All

Last night I checked the battery and it was still good. I disconnected and then reconn ected both terminals and that brought the power back. When I turned the key the power went out again. I repeated the procedure but did not turn the key. Instead, I took off the knee bolster and tried to wiggle the wires under the dash to see if I could find the source since it seems to be related to the ignition. Nothing cut the power so I started it up and it worked fine except for the check engine light which was flashing that says I have a misfire condition. I drove the car 25 miles to work this morning and will be taking it to the dealer for a better inspection.
