Question about 2006 Chevrolet HHR

1 Answer

2006 HHR turns over fine but won't start

Had trouble starting it this morning until I hit the gas a few times. Same thing tonight after work. Dropped my brother off and went to a friend's place to pick up a cd with the car left running the whole time. After chatting with my friend for about 10 minutes the car kind of shuttered & quit running. Now it just turns over but doesn't start whether I step on the gas or not. Going to have it towed to the dealership in the morning unles someone has a suggestion to at least be able to drive it there. Fuel pump? fuel filter? Injector problem?

Thanks for your advice. The fuel pump was running so I checked the relays in the fusebox & I couldn't see anything obviously blown or smelling burnt so I had it towed to alocal GM dealer ($65). They dtermined it was the crankshaft position sensor so I had them change it (part=$45, labor=$213). The part is $20 at Autozone.com. I don't have a spare car to get back and forth to work until I had time to fix it myself & I would've had to have it towed to my house which is 20 miles from the dealership plus pay the tow that I already had & their diagnostic charge (est. $100). It kind of sucks that the failing of a sensor for determining the rotation of the crankshaft would disable the car from being driven altogether. Anyway, I just thought I would post this here for the next person with this issue. Again, thanks for the advice.

Turn your key to the "on" position and listen...you should be able to hear the fuel pump running. If not, I would like to say to check a relay, but the hard starting was probably an indication that the pump was going bad and it most likely went. If the pump is running, I would replace the fuel filter or get a fuel pressure test at the fuel rail. Hope this helped, sorry for your troubles, and I hope you find a resolution to your problem that is not too painful.

My 2006 chevy hhr suddenly wont start or crank about a week ago i did have a problem with power steering going out and had to drive it home like that but it now works

Can you hear the starter try to engage ?
Do the lights work ?
Have you tried cranking it in neutral ?
If the starter engages but won't turn the engine, and the battery is good, the power steering pump could have failed and that is locking up things. Removing the belt would tell you if the pump is the problem.

Check engine light flashing in 2006 chevy hhr

If it is running rough & no check engine light on then the first thing I would to is tune it up. If you have a check engine light then pay someone to diagnosis it & go from there. Usually when the light comes on there is a more promenient issue; that is WHY the light continues to flash.

Just had an oil change. how do I reset the oil life on 2006 Chevy HHR LT?

1. Turn Ignition to Run, with engine OFF
2. Press info and reset buttons at same time to get to personalization menu
3. After that; press info button to scroll through menu until you see OIL LIFE RESET
4. Press and Hold reset button until shows ACKNOWLEDGED
5. turn the key to lock
There is apparently another way also, where you turn on the ignition without starting, and pump the gas pedal three times with 7 sec or something like that.

2006 Chevy HHR

start with the shifter. a common problem is the shifter is not making connection with the switch to tell the car its in park. jar ( hit) the shifter some and see if this doesnt let the key release. if this doesnt work then on plastic covering under the ignition switch is a small opening with a plastic cover. Remove the cover, feel with your finger until you find the release button for the key. The key will then come out.
