Usually the problem is inside the lock switch. You should have power at the EEC relay and the coil with the switch in the on position.

How do you check a 1989 ford ranger starter relay

Try quickly turning your key to the start position and back to the on/run position. Your truck is like mine, if you have a quick hand turning the key to start your truck it will start normally. Honestly that's the best solution. Hopefully I explained myself thoroughly.

Runs while key is being held on. as soon as you release key to driving derections. jeep stop runing. can any one help me.

I don't quite understand what you mean by be held on. Normally you "hold on" to the key to start it and let it go back to the on position. If you have to hold the key on (start position) then you can might not be starting. The starter is turning the engine, but the engine not running? What happens when you give it gas?

On initial startup unit runs good. After unit starts to warm up with defroster running engine service soon light comes on and stays on? Any ideas?

That's just a service reminder light. Usually indicating it's due for a particular service at a specified mileage. Any good shop or parts store can reset that for you.

Ford Tempo will not start when it is freezing. Could that be contensation in tank or something else?

check your starter and solenoid also could be your battery you might want to plug in your vehicle at night and check your alternator by taking off the positive battery cable while your vehicle is running if the vehicle stops running you need a new alternator because it does not have the power to charge the cold cranks in your battery while it is able to run it would explain why your vehicle only has problems in the cold

I have an 85 ford tempo, it will only stay running

You could have a faulty wiring harness on the steering column (or it could just be loose) or you need to replace the ignition.

1989 for tempo starts fine but after idling for a few minutes will quit. Will stall when you pull up to a stop sign. Have to keep the engine revved up to keep it running. The check engine light comes on...

hi,

its time for new fuel filter, new fuel injectors, spark plugs, spark plug wires, cap and rotor. the engine in the tempo is a good one and if you take care of it that car should last quite a while longer..
