Question about 2005 Ford Five Hundred

1 Answer

Seal on driver rear door is off of the frame! Now the door doesn't close (has to be slammed) and before that, I could lift the seal at the bottom of the door on both rear passenger doors, and if it had rained, regardless of if I went anywhere or had the car parked, I can lift the seal on the door itself and water pours out! Any help is VERY much appreciated! Kelly Maurice, LA

If someone closes the electric rear door manually will it harm the door?

it should not. there are designed to work either way. However if you live in a colder climate you will do yourself a favor by closing it slowly and not quickly slamming it shut. This will help prolong the life of the lift struts, if equipped, and will be easier on the lift motor.

2007 ford freestar lift gate will not open even though I can hear the lock disengaging. Still feels locked. It is manual open, but cannot lift it, feels locked.

Try pressing the door closed while unlocking and releasing. If the door previously has been slammed shut hard or just due to general wear and tear the latching mechanism can become slightly relocated. This means that when the door closes the door is pressing tighter than normal against the door seal. The compressed door seal will put a lot of strain on the latch mechanism and can hinder its retraction when released. By pressing the door closed and therefore removing the strain due to the door seal you might allow the release mechanism enough freedom of movement to retract when released. If having got the door open then immediately adjust/relocate and lubricate the lock/release mechanism such that you achieve a happy medium of the door closing with a weatherproof seal but not so tightly as to put the latch under a lot of strain.

Had to replace driver side door on regular cab 1500 truck. Used a door from wrecking yard. The door fits fine when closed but you have to lift the door to close. Are there any adjustments to adjust the...

Yes there are. loosen the mounting bolts on the frame. They are hard to get to. You should be able to lift the door a little then. (Unless the entire door is dragging and that should not be the case). Probably do not want to loosen the bottom unless you have to. You should be able to raise it with just the top loosened.

1995 Honda passport right rear door wont close

do you slam it and it makes a crash noise abd bounces back?? when a car door shuts it has a "hole" in the door with a lever that catched the rod that is attatched to the sub frame of the car. if that lever has been pushed down prior to closing it will never let the door close.. get a screw driver and force the "prong" back open where it can accept the rod on the sub frame

Door has to be slammed on both sides to get it to close correctly, even then it does not look level with body.

to "ADJUST"A dropped door, open 1/3rd put a 5ft piece of 3x3 (wrapped in a blanket) under the bottom rear edge, and LIFT,this is what bodyshops do NOT let you see, and charge you a fortune to do it.if the top of the door is warped outward, lower the window and place the 3x3 next to the lock and PUSH the top of the frame into shape.......obviously dont overdo the apeman bit.

The passenger side front door has a terrible draft noise when we are moving. We cannot feel a draft at all, but something is not right. The seal is obviously not working correctly. What should I look for...

Is the seal correctly fitted? Does the door rattle when it is closed properly? Does it look like it is not properly shut when it is closed and if you push it from the outside is there a bit of give? If so your slam plate needs to be loosened and pushed in a bit to hold the door tighter, not too much or the door won't close at all. Another thing you can look for it a badly fitting window frame. If there is too much space between the car body and the window frame wind will whistle arond the gap. To see if that is the culprit, seal it with duct tape and take it for a ride. If that is the problem, open the door.wind the window fully down, stand between the car and the open door and carefully pull the top of the window frame towards you. If you can movw it in by 1/2 inch it will make an effective seal when the door is closed. Go carefully though.

2001 door adjustment

you might check to see if the hinges are worn out.
Grab the rear of the door and lift up. otherwise, it sounds like the window frame needs to be bent in.
When i worked In the body shop we would sit in the seat with door slightly open, put our knee againts the rear of the door, grab it at the top and pull in real hard untill the window frame bends in.

How do you adjust door latchs

I don't think the problem is the door latches. Sounds more likely that the hinge pins are gone. You say you have to lift the door and slam it. When the hinge pins go the door will sag and you will need to lift it up to align with the striker pin on the door frame. Get a new set of hinges for your truck.

Hope this helps
