I'd look for a bad wire in loom that runs from pillar to door at hinge area.

Gas door won't open

FIRST: try using the gas release lever from inside the car with the driver side door closed. My 2006 Jetta gas release lever would only work if the driver door were shut and I pulled the release from the inside car interior. Turns out it was a severed door wire (NOT THE RELEASE CABLE). Thus when the door was open, it stretched the damaged wire and so none of the door controls worked unless the door was closed. ie windows, trunk release, and gas release. It was a $600 repair at the dealership, parts and labor! :(

if you remove the trim panel in the trunk on the side with the door there is usually access to the mechanism that opens it some even have an emergency lever there.

put the key into the drivers door and unlock/hold over(the windows will go down)then lock/hold over.the windows will go up/sunroof closes)this should reset the system.if not then you will have to get the car on a diagnostic computer.

basically it is either a short in the switch or the wiring
depending on your electrical and automotive skills, it would be easier to take it to a first unless you know of a really good aftermarket garage in your are

2005 VW Jetta TDI Wagon: Left brake light doesn't

Very difficult. You have to open the inside access door on the drivers side, remove the amp and wheel well cover, pinch the tabs and the bulb cluster will release. The taillight assembly is bolted from inside of the car, so it can't be done outside.

2003 Jetta Fuse diagram

Sounds like the microswitch in the driver door latch is defective. The most common problem. To replace it you have to remove the driver door panel trim. Then under that you'll find a metal skin. You have to remove the driver door window, disconnect all the harness you can from that side. You have to remove the lock next to the handle and unclip the little cable from the handle, but don't have to remove the handle. Unscrew the 2 bolts holding the latch. Then unscrew all the 10mm bolts holding the panel. With the panel pulled a little away you'll have to reach behind and unclip all the clips holding your wiring, unless you cut them and replace them all after. Then reach behind unplug the latch and remove the whole asesembly. Then remove the cover if you have on over the latch. You can then replace the latch which is held with a rivet in a plastic bracket, which you might ahve to replace as well if damaged. Not an easy job for the first timer.
